I requested entry to "t' Norf" when I first signed up, heard nothing back for like 6 months, applied again, worked fine, may have been that by then I had put my location in my profile?

I get the impression it just emails a request for 'entry' to an admin or maybe locally assigned moderators? and they say yes or no?

It is done by a mod of that section. I get an email each time someone asks to join the SE forums, I act on them usually in <1 hour, others may be far more busy!
