Just in case anyone else has been on the fence about buying one, Argos have a decent offer on for the Xbox Elite controller. £99.99 including a copy of Halo 5, Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3 or Dead Rising 4.

Thumbs Up

Are these really worth the money? My main issue with the standard Xbox pad's it's too small (for even my girly hands). I believe these are the same size.

The pad itself is nice. Really bloody nice. But, still, £100 for a controller is too steep for me... even if I did have an Xbox One.

The first real controllers I used looked like these:

Before that it was keyboard controls on the ZX81.

I know people that say they can't use the PlayStation controllers because they are too small or the Xbox controllers because the buttons are in the wrong position for their fingers Rolling Eyes proper gamers can use any controller they are given and make it work for them.

I seen these elite controllers in the shop and my first thought was WHY?

Why?

I can jump and aim without taking finger off the right stick to aim.

I can map buttons to do things with my pinky, rather than waste, competitive gameplay yo.

Well I guess if you think back even to the master system/nes controllers:

The PlayStation controller isn't great for driving games, ideally the analog stick would be where the D pad is. My issue with the Xbox One pad's that it gives me cramp in my hands (getting old I guess Embarassed). The original Xbox Controller S is my fav', I still use it on my PC.

FFB steering wheels/pedals have taken over, they're pretty advanced now. It would be cool if there was something for motorbike games, a modern ver. of the thrustmaster freestyler maybe:

(I don't think they had FFB)

I prefer my DS4 to the Xbox One controller, but that's purely because of the touchpad. A feature I really like.
I can switch between the two without issues (apart from when it says "Press X".) But that Elite controller feels really bloody good in your hands. I never used the back flappy paddle things. I just like the overall feel of it.

Razer recently released a PS4 pad (which has blatantly ripped off the Xbox design,) complete with additional flappy paddles at the back. But, again, it's such a high price that I wouldn't even consider it.

After using the controller for a few days I'd highly recommend it with the current deal. At the normal price of £120 for just the controller it's a tougher call.

I think they should release a 'bare bones' version of it with no extra buttons, joysticks, case, cable etc so that it's not such a big jump in cost. As it is though I think you get a lot more for your money with the elite controller than you do with a normal one.

Got the elite console on offer a while ago with the controller included, thought the paddles would be a bit of a gimmick really but on Forza 6, they are amazing when set up to be used as flappy paddle gears. Don't get me wrong, I still wouldn't pay that much for a controller if it was just for normal everyday gaming, but it I was doing competitions that it would be allowed to be used in then yeah I would go for it.
