Hi

When I first got the NSR, I had problems with the clutch, but noticed the rotating spindle thing was wobbling around in the crank case so put it down to that. It has also been sitting around in a garage. I stripped the engine down in march and drained the oil, I started the engine for the first time two days ago and the sprocket was spinning in neutral, however the engine didn't stall when I stopped it easily with my finger.

Got the clutch and chain connected, I am pretty sure it is adjusted correctly as it is pulling the lever as far as it can go. Put it on the centre stand, dropped it into first and the rear wheel spins, in second the bike stalls. Rolling it on the ground, the clutch does not stop the engine turning over when the bike is in gear.

Not sure what is up, don't think I have upset anything as I didn't take anything apart and it wasn't working prior to the strip down. Surely if the disks were damaged it would slip rather than not do anything at all Confused

Bit stumped really as it all looked fine to me.

First off, NEVER EVER TOUCH ROTATING MACHINERY, its a really good way of losing important body parts like fingers Shocked .

Second, if the engine has sat for a long while the clutch plates are almost certainly glued together, you need to strip the clutch , knock the plates apart (or pry with a dull, large screwdriver) being careful not to bend them. Wash the plates in petrol and reassemble in reverse order.

It was going really slowly, besides I stopped it with my head first incase my hand got damaged Razz

Oh and it works now Confused

Tightened the cable as far as I could, then just kept popping it in and out of gear and it slowly started working, then adjusted it properley and it is fine now Thumbs Up plates must have been stuck, just glad I didn't have to strip it down, again Very Happy
