So I was looking at a 2001 Kwak ZZR600 21k £900, opinions please, will need new rear tyre, down pipes blowing slightly otherwise looks good for 14 years old, will hear it running tomorrow. Thinking of selling CG doing test while I tart this up, what does the populace think please.

Buy a slightly older one, new tyres and disks, decent MOT and ready to go for £600?

Not too bad a price. Sold a '93 ZZR400 last year for £700, with similar miles, new tyres and rather tatty.

Check price of downpipes, use that to haggle price down. Check cans are in good nick too, I believe they're difficult/expensive to replace.

Check all fairing carefully, replacement panels are super tough to come by. Often cracks around all mounting bolts. Also check same ignition key does tank, seat and little storage compartment in left hand fairing.

Original front brake? Many like to swap on a Nissin off a CBR to greatly improve things. Mine already had this done, so I don't know just how bad the original is, but internet reports aren't favourable.

Try to test ride it at a good speed/high revs. Issues with seal on ram air intake box don't always show themselves at low speed.

Do your test before you spend money on buying and "tarting up" a bike that you can't ride.

Coming from a 2001 ZZR600 owner, they're not worth "tarting up". Also £900 for a bike that's going to need replacement downpipes (definitely if they're the stock ones) is too much.

That price..... type zzr600 in ebay and look at similar ages and mileages being sold by dealers...... I'd really wonder why this one is so much less than most of them, the cynical me thinks a rear tyre and downpipes may be the tip of the iceberg.

Not sure if buying an selling bikes is a hobby or just something to show a business Thinking

My old ZZR (honestly couldn't tell you the year, I think it was a 98) was in good nick, apart from a failed rear sprocket carrier bearing. I only parted £400, and that was with a good whack of tax and MOT.

Ive looked at Divvys ,Fazers that are more upright, all a bit too much cash, this is in my price range and looks very tidy, hes been selling bikes for a few years now, I will check out the paperwork ,mot for mileage and hpi and anything else, I was planning on doing what I did with my CG when I got it, fork oil, full service, check shims, change brake fluid and check pistons ,pads and seals, remove swingarm and re grease linkages while doing my mods.
I doubt any bike I get around £900 would be mint and free from any jobs, plus it being a first big bike if I bin it I don't loose too much, well I hope theirs logic there, Im 50 in July so my wife will be paying for my mod 2 for birthday pressie. Ive waited all these years so a couple of months wont be too much.

ZZR, get rolling in second gear and then try and pull away quickly

If it jumps out of 2nd gear, walk away, it's knackered

Try and have a look at the rear shock, it gets a fair bit of crud thrown at it.
Mines been a commuter bike for the past 5 years or so and the latter two it's lived outside, 34k and still going strong.

£600 takes my ZZR600, although I came off it in 2010 at a slow speed, and was using it as a daily commuter for the past few years.

It'll have 12 months MOT and around 33,000 miles.

Lol at everyone thinking £900 is cheap for an old ZZR 600. That is good ZX6R money.

It has stainless cans and headers too, so wont need to piss about with that.

not to comment on that specific bike or the price, butjust for my 2 cents, I've always loved a ZZR and if there's a good one at a good price I'm sure you'd enjoy it

my first bike was a zzr250 and since then i've lusted after a 600 or 1100 even when i've got a perfectly good cbr

mind you i can't say i've actually ridden a zzr600 s i'm pretty poor for advice but i've heard very good things ...

In terms of money, it was possibly a bit of a waste.

However if it's your only bike and you're keeping it then I guess you might as well have it sorted if that's what you wanted.

Also people seem to forget about the running costs of vehicles, or think that running costs somehow contribute to the value of it. Losing the running costs of a second bike is the main reason I'm getting rid of the ZZR. I'm sure some of that £1k went towards running costs that would've been expected anyway.

If you enjoy it then that's good, but don't expect much money for it when you sell it.

She's my daily transport and we have a bit of a love / hate relationship - some days I love her, some days she's a pain in the ass.

Money was from the car driver's insurance and was spent was on replacement panels, paint, new rear shock and powder coating the wheels white - looks good but a pain to keep clean!

I plan on seeing if I can get her to go round the clocks back to 00000

Just my opinion, but I count the ZZR 6 as being one of the great unsung heroes.
Yes the brakes can be a pain to bleed and keep clean, the nissin calipers are an easy and cheap fix. Second gear does have issues if the bike has been abused, but I've had six of them through my hands with no problems.
They are a bit low which can lead to cramps for the six-footers.
But... They are bloody fast, far better than the T'cat, certainly up there with CBR 6's, the fairings keep wind and crap off you, double bubble screen and you are almost in luxury tourer territory.
An all round solid bike with TONS of spares and knowledge, they kept on making it for centuries(!)

Cheers
