MOT frame number discrepancy

I took my bike in for its MOT last year, shortly after I received a letter from the DVSA saying the frame number reported on the MOT was different to what they have on the log book.

This then prompted me to fill in a form detailing what my V5 says and what my latest MOT cert says. Looking at the frame number at the headstock, the one written on the MOT is correct, there is a difference of one digit (an extra 0) between the two.

Well, I did what any normal person would do, and ignored it. Razz

Roll around to MOT time again this year, the bike passes, but I receive the same letter.

I have no idea what my V5 says as I have lost it, so I can't fill the form in. I only know the discrepancy is a single extra 0 because it states so on the letter they sent me.

I'm not going to pay £25 for another V5... surely if they have access to this information, why do they need it from me?!

Shall I just ignore once more?

If you're planning to ride the bike into the ground, I'd ignore it.

If you plan to sell it at any point then you'll need a V5C anyway so might as well get one now.

Then ignore it.

Where abouts is the extra 0? If it's at the beginning or end of the number, could it be someone (either MOT tester or DVLA) has mistaken an * that is sometimes at the beginning and end of the frame number?

So the piggies stop you for whatever reason?
They then start checking your bike over and using their PNC and they are informed of this discrepancy?

You get arrested for obviously having a "dodgy" bike and they seize your bike which you then have to pay to get back?

Is it worth being arsey about it because it`s not your fault?
Get it sorted : then you wont need to worry about it.

I've been stopped by the piggies (traffic) a few times which is why that wasn't a concern! Wink

The bike's never getting sold, it's too old and worth more to me as a bike than a small pile of notes.

The discrepancy is in the middle of the number.

When originality registered I guess there was some miss typing
I get it corrected
If not it is a perfect excuse to take the bike at a roadside check not least as you have chosen to bin two letters asking you to sort it out

not lightly to happen but if it dose it will cost you a pile of grief fro not bothering to sort it
