2015 marks the end of the paper counterpart licence, all further licence records can be checked/updated online:

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/driving-licence-changes

Quote:
What to do with your paper counterpart
When DVLA stops issuing the counterpart of the driving licence, those drivers who already have a counterpart may destroy it.

You’ll still be able to use the counterpart driving licence to change your address with DVLA. You can also change your address online.

Thought this was quite interesting, please don't scold me if this has been posted already -- I have searched!

Gives the DVLA another way of cocking it up.

Quote:
DVLA is developing a new digital enquiry service for launch later this year that will allow organisations and businesses (such as employers and car hire companies) to view information they can currently see on the driving licence counterpart.

This new service will be offered in addition to the existing services, but is designed for those who have a business need for real-time access to the information and may not wish to call DVLA or be in a position to use an intermediary.

Driving licence information via this service will only be made available to those who have a right to see it, and with the knowledge of the driving licence holder.

So what they are saying is there will probably be some sort of subscription service with an ongoing cost...

Yeah.. I read about it about a week ago.
In other countries people don't have the paper part and it works fine. DVLA on the other hand will most likely cock things up.

It'll be on the DVLA's super ultra computer, which will probably crash.........or get left on a train.

Sorry did not explain myself well. I have had a play with the licence web site and it just shows current points not expired ones, whilst ins co ask for last 5 years.
Maybe they will stop asking about expired points Laughing

About time, no more "we need both parts of your driving licence" bullshit from places. Who the phuck knows where their paper part is anyway?!

I had an issue recently where I was working away and renting a car when I got there, couldn't find the counterpart before I left and when I arrived they refused to loan me the car and couldn't phone DVLA until the morning to verify the licence as they were shut! This system is common sense really, its about time.

I'm travelling abroad soon and have to loan a car there, they're not tied into our systems so I wonder what happens when you can't produce your paper counterpart there?

Never been asked for everytime I've hired a car in europe, just picture part and passport.

I wonder if you still have to apply and pay to have endorsements removed once its online

We were all somewhat incredulous when we found out that the new plastic photo wonder-licence needed a sheet of paper as well.

Not to mention that it 'expired' after 10 years. Requiring one to send yet more ponds sterling in the direction of HM Government / swines in Swansea. They will screw the new system up, somehow.

+1 insightful.

The cynical part of me[*] wonders if DVLA will sell that information to them while not giving it to us. Thinking

[*] I keep the non cynical parts in a jar. A small jar.

They won't be interested in the paper part.... They are more interested in getting your credit card details Laughing

You don't pay to change the address on your license.

Replacement is £20.

Change of address should be free. Are they insisting on having both part of your license back? Eh?

Where are you getting £50 from?

It's £20 to replace a lost license, right?

Guessing £50 is for a new licence? Which means you'll only receive category B entitlement, based on past performance.

Insurance shouldn't be a worry though, my bank details, licence and everything are registered to my parents while my bike is insured at our lasses house.

If I was designing that system, it would be simple. Each point would have a valid from and valid to date. Nothing actually gets removed. It's easy to show only valid points to the licence holder. Also, it would be very easy to query it to ask for points within the last 5 years.

Or 10. Or 15. Or lifetime. Neutral
