Meh, I'll never vote for UKIP, but maybe some good can come from it, particularly regarding Europe's insistence to dictate our biking lives.

So the new MAG policy will be much like UKIP, whinge, blame immigrants, and refuse to go anywhere near Europe and engage with the issue as that might actually a) involve activities other than fundraising and b) if they actually improve anythign then they will undermine their own existence?

Not even remotely true.

Both MAG and UKIP enjoy regular jollies to Brussels to mutter "down with this sort of thing".

The main different is that MAG turn membership money into beer farts, while UKIP are funded by our taxes.

Ahh, now I understand the many comments from bikers on FB saying they will hand back their MAG membership cards...

I was interested to get a different viewpoint so googles "Farage joins MAG"

I read the first lot of results threads.
Vast amount, and I mean an avalanche, are negative comment.
IMHO appears to have harmed MAG. Comments such as not renewing membership, they're supposed to be politically neutral and a lobby group, damages MAG credibility, don't want to be associated / called a racist, bigot, fascist, etc.

Found one positive spin on it...

I'm reminded of Oliver Twist with MAG holding up a begging bowl, "Please Sir, can I have more?"

Absolutely MAG should be targeting MEPs. By the time anything gets to MPs it's already a done deal and it's just a case of how much lube they choose to use.

But Farage, well, you can't say that they're not effective attention whores.

I saw the poster below on their facebook page.
I asked what had MAG managed to change with MPs recently? Not leg protectors, but recent events. No reply (Facebook would have told me!).
Which actually says a great deal to me.

https://scontent-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xap1/v/t1.0-9/10150612_10155210683683125_2887770812238419246_n.jpg?oh=cff05dbe11005701c9caf8d5b9de31d8&oe=54D703FE

...yes apparently MAG has 35 MPs as members (also according to this). So 650 MPs total, that's 5.4%. Which if you consider the often quoted statistic that bikers are only 1% of road users is quite high in comparison.

I happen to like Farage and his rants in the EU parliament, especially when he calls them out to their face. Rare to see these days.

MAG have latched onto a populist movement and should be applauded for once. Sounds good to me.

Thumbs Up

I read it more along the lines of now that Farage has joined, other MEP / MP will have to as they won't want him having solo space to throw his bile around.

In all honesty, how people find Cameron / Balls less offensive is utterly beyond me, it's not just about their politics - they're all pretty miserable human beings. At least Farage has the cahones to go on comedy programs and show something of himself and take a fair battering in the process.

It does appear to have irritated 15 or so people on Facebook though! What happened to the adage, any publicity is good publicity ........

I don't see how Farage joining has any effect on them being politically neutral (yet). The people ranting about it are the ones breaking that neutrality. So far he has simply joined a motorcycle group, not made any effort to steer it towards his political path.

Zero shits given though, I'll never be a member of MAG or any other pointless lobby group that simply serves to line the pockets of its own leadershit.

Hell if you are a member this should be a good thing, you have gone from a group nobody gives a fuck about, to a group nobody gives a fuck about but at least gets some column inches.

Yet they cant be bothered to even mumble "down with TTIP" despite more people* turning up at their party conference to politely hand out TTIP leaflets than enraged people stopping traffic because they'd like UKIP to fuck off out of their backyard**.

*measured by the truly scientific method of rough guess whilst riding past

**presumably because UKIP took the respectable moderates out of the BNP, Britain First and other batshit crazy groups that we'd call terrorist organisations if they weren't formed from provincial white trash.

Farrage has been a bit of an attention seeker in the European Parliament and has calmed down in recent years after his outburst at the chair/president which got his point across but was unpleasant to watch.

I find him reminiscent of the British Bulldog politician of yore so it would be interesting to see him get to power to see if he could strengthen the British position, but I think we're too monetarily poor a nation to really influence or change the balance. I'm not sure how I feel about leaving the Euro and the common market, overall I think it would be positive for the country.

The main problem with UKIP is the freak show it associates with: https://www.channel4.com/news/ukip-donor-donations-demetri-marchessini-views-politics

I cant stand UKIP and Farage but since taken up biking I've certainly developed a keen sense of heightened risk when I spot a suspected "foreigner" peering dumbly in the wrong direction through the window of their knackered old Mercedes, Toyota, Citroen etc.

Farage is a dick but he might be able to put the appalling lack of standardisation of driving standards across Europe on the agenda.

Your dislike of UKIP seems to be based on utter ignorance of what they stand for. Why am I not surprised?
