Hi guys,

i'm in Costa Rica. Yesterday i bought a brand new Honda CB1. Nothing fancy. Just to get around. 125cc. 2200 USD pricerange.

All is well. I am happy and drive home on my bike. Last part home is up hill for 15 minutes. Mostly up hill, that is.

So then, after about two thirds of the way up, i kind of end up having chosen a too high gear and the cycle goes slower and slower (logically). Since i am new to it, i f-ck up and basically get to stand with it, on a 25° slope. Okay. So i try hard to start it and get back into driving. Takes me about 10 minutes to get the trick with the brakes and the gas sorted.

Long story short, after this, the bike would no longer really speed up. I start it in neutral, it runs, but when i shift to a gear and add gas, it doesn't really move much. Just a little. It's really weird.

6 months warranty, yes. But around here things are difficult. The Honda store is an hour away and i cannot drive there because the thing doesn't move. Aside from the fact that it is Sunday and soon-to-be christmas.

I was hoping that perhaps some of you pros could give me an opinion or help me out remotely? I can provide images, video or even a sound recording of the engine if that helps. Anything, not to be stuck up here on the mountain Sad

You're going up a 25degree slope for 15 minutes? For every metre you travelled forwards you went up 0.42m, so at 60km/hr you went 15/4= 3.75km upwards. That's 12,000 feet.

Either you burnt the clutch out trying to hill-start for 10 mins or the air's too thin for the engine to pull.

Thanks for your response.

I wasn't as precise. It's not 100% up-hill, often sloping down a bit, then going up again. But mainly up, as i got oceanview Very Happy

Anyway, turns out some friends in the area had time to come over and have a look, the guy knows a bit about bikes. Said it was a clutch adjustment issue and fairly common with new bikes here. Thing is that he loosened a screw (at the lower parts), changed the "headroom" of the clutch cable and now it's running fine again.

That's how we learn.

Aah yes, clutch cable free-play. Glad to hear you have it sorted, and don't live at the top of a mountain Smile
