I rode a 1300km Audax event in Scotland in July. The BBC were filming it and it will be on next week. It’s on BBC2 Scotland but you can get it on iPlayer, and on Sky.

4-minute preview here: https://vimeo.com/112902193

I’m in the preview for 2s. I guess 15 minutes of fame was too much to expect. Very Happy

Watched it, looked quite good and seemed to have brilliant weather for it! Thought it was hilarious the finish point was my home town of Saltcoats - surely they could have finished somewhere a bit nicer (even Largs), might have given people a bit more inspiration to finish lol

It was originally intended that it would finish in Ardrossan but it would have been under distance for 1300km* - hence going all the way to Saltcoats. I was surprised how run down it looked, I’ve not been there for years. I went to Ardrossan Academy for a couple of years, and my mum lives fairly close, so I have a local connection.

It’s probably the toughest event I’ve done (I’ve done 1200km twice and 1400km twice as well as various between 200km and 600km). The weather looked nice but the heat was oppressive and 3-4 days in with typically 2h sleep per night and heavy fatigue and dehydration, it wasn’t good.

I was the one in a cream Rapha top with the black stripe on the arm, interviewed on the ferry on the way to Brodick (they just used a short part of it in the end) and seen a few times in various shots. I got round using a tent and sleeping bag (and carried a water purifier bottle to get water in remote places). Those Swedish guys were about 1.5h ahead of me at Durness yet were 5h behind me at the bunkhouse at Trantlebeg just 60 miles further on as they had a really long break.

* Even if you go to Lochinver rather than following the dodgy gps track.
