I know we joke about motorbikes killing kittens but on my route I regularly see dead birds, hedgehogs and the odd badger. Last night on the way back I saw the VW Tiguan ahead of me (who was driving like a boss, it has to be said) slow down a fair bit. I wondered why then I saw a bunny run back out of his path. I slowly accelerated past and the silly thing decided to run right past my back wheel, there was contact I felt it. I assume the thing is now roadkill, dark night and traffic behind me on a country road so I couldn't stop to check. No blood or hair present on the wheel/under the arch when I got off to check after arriving home.

So what's your experience with roadkill?

I did feel pretty bad about it. But I slowed right down to pass and it decided to run behind me anyway, not much I could do really. Braking probably would have made it worse due to it's proximity to the rear wheel.

Hit a sparrow once.

Narrow country lane, flew out from a hedgerow right into the car.

Slows down to near complete stop to avoid bunny. Successfully avoids bunny. Bunny decides to run past still slightly moving back wheel anyway.

My wife hit a wallaby once, in her Renault Megane, in South Oxfordshire. True story. There was hair left in the panel gaps but no blood, so not sure if road kill or road wounded. She got it in the head.

"I assume the thing is now roadkill," you said, and you felt the need for a blood and guts check.

Now from your latest description it sounds like it harmlessly bumped off your barely moving back wheel.

Which is it? Defining your definition of "slow" in mph may help. I have a feeling your slow is a bit faster than my slow.

This +twelvety. I am fairly sure they are a protected species too. I suggest you report this to your local police station. Take a weekend bag too, you sick fuck.

About 5MPH. It probably did just bump off the back wheel, but it's hard to make an accurate judgement when it's a dark country road, and I think anyone would give their vehicle a once over when it's safe to do so if they thought something had glanced off the back of it.

Went over a hedgehog once.

Poor thing must have thought "phew, that was close", when the wheels of the car in front of me went either side of it. Then I came along and splat. Sad

I've hit more wildlife than I can remember over the years. Most painful was a gull that took out a mirror an indicator the clutch lever and nearly broke my fingers. Most scary was a pigeon that somehow got down the front of my jacket. Had birds barbecued on cooling fins of air cooled bikes and jammed on radiators of water cooled ones. Came very close to getting a buzzard in the face that was attending previous road kill. Much as it makes me a complete bastard I've flattened multiple rabbits but have almost lost the front end due to loosing grip on a slippery dead bunny on a particularly tight hairpin. Most macabre bunny kill was many years ago on the west coast of Scotland - hit a rabbit, slowed down and seen it limp off. Ten minutes later I came back the same way and seen a couple of hooded crows tearing it apart.

Never hit a deer on bike but have hit 2 in cars - 1st one didn't die but sat on the ground staring at me, 2nd one did die - just as well, it caused £800 worth of damage. Most upsetting road kill was a tawny (I think) owl which flattened itself on my windscreen.

I am a bad person Crying or Very sad

Suicidal pheasants round here, you are guaranteed to hit 2 or 3 a year. Maybe they figure getting mowed down by a bike is preferable to getting shot at by some buck toothed upper class twat.

A deer did about £3000 worth of damage to my dad's Merc Vito van when he hit it at about 50mph

I had that happen when riding in my brothers car, a squirrel fell out of the tree right in front of us and we felt a small bump so stopped and looked and all that was in the road was the tail....
