ok ive just dropped into the money for a new bike.
a new new bike.
so i rode the tuono and i think its great, the engine is epic.
so thats the bike for me.
rode multistrada and monster 1200 and they both have thier charms but niether made me want to spend money.
even tho im a yamaha fanboy they dont do anything i want(at the moment)
suzuki have the naked gsx thing they promise, but it looks like it will be a light bandit substitute, not a gsxr with flat bars.
so i went to bmw.
the s1000r is an ugly bike, the colour choice is limited.
engine is strong everywhere but isnt magic.
electronic gizmos make it comfy when you want it.
it has sensible service intervals that are priced the right side of stupid.
dealers are about the same distance too far away.
my heart wants the tuono
but my head says s1000r.
im still 2 and a half months away but anyone got any hands on stories about either the 2014 tuono or the bmw s1000r sport.

If you are splurging that sort of money it's up to you pal.

I know what my next bike will be ages before I buy it. I might find it doesn't live up to my expectations but that's my problem with choice.

I might expect a learner/new rider to ask advice about which CG or YBR but a BM1000 or a V4 Aprilla, get real. There are probably no more than a couple of people on this forum who have even sat on either, let alone ridden.

I seem to remember one lunching itself on here a while back. Might want to re-check that 'strong everywhere' claim.

Good memory! Got to 5k then apparently a valve clip failed resulting in fairly catastrophic damage.

I was going to say go with your heart and don't get an ugly bike until I saw some pics of the BMW and think it looks great.

I've seen two V4's eat their cylinder heads before the 10,000 mile mark. Valve clearances tighten up, they come in, we set them up, they go back out and come back with the same problem a few weeks later, valves sinking into the heads causing lack of clearance.

Also,

N30 did an engine in his S1000 & I belive he mentioned a mates S1000 munching an engine in 4,000 miles.

Honestly I'd not chance that amount of money on either of those bikes.

Buy a used litre naked & get TTR performance to supercharge it to 250ish bhp for around £3k. Least then if it does eat an engine it won't be much hassle to source a new one Laughing

Poor reason. Who gets to look at the colour of their bike while actually riding it. Of course if you mean power ranger pose value Rolling Eyes

A pal bought a brand new VFR800 recently and it shat itself and dropped a valve.

It's what warranty is there for.

Oh I agree with that, however what happens if it only sees low mileage use and then shits itself outside of warranty?

That would be my concern. Aprilia/BMW bits are not cheap & the potential for having to pay for them & the labour to rebuild an engine is...worrying Shocked

So you're looking to spunk around £10k on a bike but can't make your mind up which one?

plus a fuckton of fuel.

An 'old' tuono ain't the same as a new APRC V4 tuono. And get the tuono so long as you have a decent dealer closeish. The electronics package is up there with the beemer, apart from having no electronic suspension. Then buy an Austin Racing GP2R, to unleash that sound... Drooling Wub one of the best sounding engines available IMO.

Also, think of this: you're out on your new BMW S1000R and what pulls up next to you at the lights? A V4 tuono. You'd be sat there thinking "oh bugger, I wish I bought one of those!" I doubt you'd be doing the same the other way round Wink

i really dont like the stickers and crap on the 1100.
not enquired about if they do one with no stickers.
tank range and dealer so far away are the main put offs for the tuono.
bigger capacity and more power on an engine that has piss poor economy isnt going to help.
i got 90 miles to fuel light on a test ride going steady on the 2014 tuono.

Have you considered the KTM Superduke 1290r? A friend of mine was looking at the bikes you mentioned,he got to test ride the Beemer and the Tuono but couldn't get his hands on the ktm at the time. I would give one of those a close look. I had a go on the Tuono when he took for a test ride. I thought for the money it was a little underwhelming. Just my 2p Thumbs Up

yes i have.
ktm is way to tall for my dwarf legs, just couldnt live with it day to day.
as for underwhelming if you play with the electrickery on all these bikes you can make em go like a c90.
anecdote, guy returns tuono to dealer saying "its the best bike ive ever ridden, ive had it in race mode all day"
dealer looks at clocks and it displays R
says nothing to punter but R is rain mode and is 40% is down on power.
true story bro Smile

A bike is for fun, go with your heart. I've ridden both and would choose based on that. Both are good bikes but one will do it for you, which one though, only you can answer that and really you know the answer already....
