15k on the clock, good condition (a few scrapes) but he is asking for 2,2 queens great British notes. Seems a bit keen to me but I'm a new rider. What do you think? I've had it checked out by a biker mate who says it is running smoothly enough.

Edit: 2006 Plate.

What dya reckon? Too much or the right kind of ball park?

Thanks in advance guys!

Difficult to tell; if for no other reason than we don't even know how old it is - without going into whether the scrapes from bungee cords or being chucked down the road and whether there's any service history behind it.

These things always seem expensive. Another £200 and you could have bought my hornet 2 years ago.

The thing is, they do tend to hold their value. So if you are 100% certain you want one / need one, then try to haggle, keep it in good condition and jobs a good'un. Thumbs Up

Woah....£2200 thats a lot.
check ebay and gumtree and you will find very well looked after 2007+ models with the fuel injection for less money than that.
I paid £700 for mine a month ago , needed some cracks repairing the exhaust refitting properly, foot peg welded back on and new clutch/brake levers.
I isnt the prettiest of things but some filler and a few rattle cans will soon sort that.

My first bike was an 06 vara with belly pan and top box included, similar millage from a dealer, I paid a similar price.

privately I'd expect to pay less

I sold it for £1300 as best I could get from a dealer as I needed to shift it quick.

Seller is having a laugh. 8 year old bike is 8 years old. Show him £1K in cash, when he starts huffing and puffing and saying that he can get a lot more, look slowly all around, hand shading eyes, and ask "From whom?"

Hi Guys,

Some sound advice here gents. Thanks Smile

Going to be giving more consideration to a private seller and make sure it has had a good recent service.

Cheers.

You can get a scabby one for around a grand don't be put off by the mileage mine has just ticked over to 84K.

Regardless of size, I love the way he's justifying that mileage doesn't matter because his is still running Laughing The fucking state of what's left of it Laughing

With that said, bearing in mind the mechanical ineptitude, roadcraft ineptitude and general levels of retardation it's a fucking tribute to the bike that despite all this shit it's still even remotely functional.

I'd be laughing all the way to the bank if I got that sort of money for my 18k, 2005 varadero. At that price I'd want 12 months MOT, almost brand new tyres, just been serviced, new chain/sprockets, and a top box/extra chucked in.

I paid £1700 (asking price was £1800) for mine in April, that was a 2 owner from new, 11k miles very nice condition bike, with 9 months MOT.

Great bikes and I had one from new 07 plate did 79000 miles on it before I was moved on.

New discs front and back, brake pedal (seized up for some unknown reason), regulator/ rectifier and that was about it apart from the usual tyres, bulbs and stuff. The only thing I wasn't keen on was the twin headlights which are rather poor out on dark country roads and the bulbs are a bitch to replace if you don't have small Japanese hands!

They will do 70+ mph but you have to push them along Shocked through the gears but they can take it as I used to hit 11500 on mine before changing up. Redline 12000. Don't just stick into 5th at 5000 and expect it to power away............. use the revs!!

Once kicked down from 5th doing 60 but I was actually in 4th and snapped a rocker Embarassed Luckily nothing really bad happened as it just dropped on to one cylinder and slowed right down so it was just a straight forward replacement.

£2200 does sound quite a lot for an 06 model even if it's absolutely pristine and serviced, good tyres etc as has been pointed out you should be able to get better for less.

Too expensive fella, as much as well looked after varaderos hold their value (driven through walls with welded sprockets ones not so much) that is still a bit much for a learner bike..
Have a good look they can be had for £1000-£1400 if you are patient.

Once you get one look after it (properly!) and you should get most if not all your cash back once you are done with it

Give him £2,500 and tell him that although his original asking price was fairly exorbitant it still wasn't quite high enough.

There are plenty of good examples of Varadero 125's for sale at the moment, but I would expect to pay no more than £1,500 for one from a dealer.

There's even a nice 2010 model on eBay for less than £2K!

There are some dreamers out there too -
2007, Dealer, 9158 miles, £3,799
2005, Dealer, 16091 miles, £2,499
2005, Dealer, 21=0150 miles, £2,199
