One of my lads is moving from Bournemouth to Middlesbrough next week
( long story) and I'm taking him up in the van
No1 son says it's a shithole
Hmm, yeah, well, parts of Bristol are best avoided
Is it all bad?
Anyone have anything good or at least balanced to say about the place?
The house is in Marton BTW near the hospital and Captain Cooks birthplace
TIA

I've been there once. The main thing I discovered is that literally every street in the city centre has a Gregs on it.

He's gonna be fkd then, I guess. Although it's a place I've never been to but surely, that's got to be a bad sign.

I stayed there once when working in Redcar over a weekend. The only good thing I can say about it is - it's better than Redcar! I was in the town centre and even in the early everning there were pissed-up groups of youths kicking bins all over the shopping area and trying to smash the front of shops in.

I guess the place would be ok if it didn't have the people in it.

Depends which area, there's a big student population and some parts are almost trendy, but a lot of dodgy immigrants in places.
The centre is much like most other large towns but even more soulless and dominated by the usual chaiins.

A good thing is how quickly you can be out in good biking country.
Coast and moors or dales in less than an hour.

It's a shithole through & through, 3 years at uni taught me that! (oh & that Asian drivers in Boro don't look right when pulling out as my last my VFR wreck can testify)

Take it your sons renting? Yarm and Eaglescliffe aren't far away just a few miles westward from Boro along the A66, much nicer places (pricey though) also Durham to the Northwest is a lot nicer if a little snobbish.

I went there once for an interview; the job was a step up, but a few hours wandering around was enough for me to turn down the offer.

It's a dump.

Been a few times for football. It's a tip.

Also got a mate from there. I could text and ask him his opinion of someone moving from Bournemouth to there but the response would be along the lines of "why the fuck is he doing that?"

Absolute fucking dive. The best thing about it is it makes most other places in the UK seem alright in comparison.

Did my undergraduate at Teesside uni. Met some mates for life there, primarily because we spent so much time indoors due to it being so rough; so lots of house parties was great but post-uni there was no reason to stay.

Funnily enough I moved straight down to Bournemouth after finishing my degree and I may as well had died and gone to heaven.

Is he going to uni there? If so has he not considered Bournemouth Uni/Arts institute? The uni there is alright but Bournemouth is a much nicer campus.

Ridley Scott is from the area I believe and used it as inspiration for the opening shot of Blade Runner - when you go you'll see why...

This. When I moved to Bournemouth we were warned about Boscombe being 'rough' where I found it almost pleasant in places - at least the tramps are polite!
