Not my video by the way, i have just seen this on Facebook and i am curious.
Whats causes them and whats the best way to deal with them.... power on or power off etc.

im guessing this is something caused by fast acceleration, cos in the videos ive seen, its on big bikes accelerating.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BBkfBGYkYE

What caused that :O
On the video he mentions cold tyres.... surely this cant be a tyre thing can it?

I think you'll find it's a combination of things.

Poor obs.
Slack chain.
Twisted subframe.
Overtaking near a junction.

It looks like a highside to me? Hang on, I just noticed his neutral light comes on as he straightens up, has that got something to do with it?

So what I'm thinking is he tried to shift up, got a false neutral, kicked it down into gear, locked the rear, rear caught grip again when wheels weren't aligned and caused the bars to wobble as it tried to correct itself.

Then again this is a wild uneducated guess and I have no idea how these things happen Laughing Thumbs Up

Edit: Nevermind, that was his indicator. Was looking at slowmo Rolling Eyes

FUUU WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THIS VIDEO.

That's his indicator flasher. (Edit: you corrected yourself first Wink)

He claims he was going too fast for the cold tyres and they lose traction. I agree. The back slides as he's accelerating as there's not enough traction to cope with accelerating and cornering. He accelerated too early.

I see, that actually makes sense. Now I'm watching tank slapper videos on YouTube thanks to this thread Laughing

It's half a Highside by the looks of it, caused by putting to much power on exiting the corner and the rear losing traction, sliding perpendicular to the direction of travel and then regaining grip causing the bike to twist.

looks like it happened just as the road surface changes from new to old. poor riding position as well, sitting bolt upright almost instead of leaning to the inside of the bike.

Highside, not a tankslapper.

OP
Yes. The tyres will be only partially responsible. The rest is due to cold weather and idiot twisting the throttle.

It's a learning process though. You crash you learn Wink

That fucker in the op's vid is either sitting all twisted or sitting bolt upright, causing more lean angle than he really needs for the given speed.........recipe for disaster with lack of tyre grip, too much throttle and generally a pish rider......crashed again just sums it up.

That was my thought as well. I thought he was about to crash on every one of the turns he made.

Plus, people crash on roundabouts all the time. Never worth going round a roundabout too fast as there is fuel lying on most of them in some form. I hate roundabouts for this reason.

I would put that down to a foot peg digging in and the rider panicking about it.

meant to comment earlier, but he looked to be leaning too far for such a low speed... tried to give it a bit of a handful too early the back kicked out and he tried to correct at the bars and f**ked it up.

I had a big off early may 2013 when I landed a 3rd gear wheelie, well in all truth I was initiating the 3rd gear wheelie and it went tits up......

Those two vids were the ones I watched afterwards as they sum up exactly what happened to me........I broke my left wrist as well and I put it down to the violence of the bars going from lock to lock, sadly I went down though and got a tad fucked up. All good now though.

Tankslapper.

The cause of that slapper was pretty obvious.
