Sooo I have some how managed to be part of a small local team doing charitable work in the local community.

It is a very new venture and completely based on facebook at present.

I do believe it would be better to make it all official and go down the Charity route.

Has anyone started a Charity and can offer advice of things to be careful of or general start up advice?

Thanks,

Nick

It will have to involve accountants and they will bleed you dry.

Loads of reasons. You'll have to have a Board of Trustees, Audit, Accuntants (as posted earlier), a Regulatory Framework will be imposed upon you. The charity's good intentions will be translated into "aims and objectives", targets will be set, and appraisals & business plans required.

That's just for starters (I've run charities to my shame, so have first-hand knowledge of this sh1t)

In other words, all the good will be sucked out of what you are doing and you will become pale shadows of what you used to be.

The Charities Commission is staffed by self-polluters with a clip-board/tick box mentality who've never done a good deed in their lives.

Hope that helps! Thumbs Up

We let you live in society, I'd call that charity.

Come to think of it, maybe we should be less charitable.

In fairness I get the point unitcyscrppeldldf is trying to make.

The leader of the London homeless organisation (forget its name - is it Shelter, or another one?) even said that people shouldn't give to beggars because they're almost all just doing it to get money for booze and drugs. Giving money to them doesn't help anything, it just keeps them ticking along.

But to give to a charitable organisation, that's worth doing, as long as it hasn't already gone the way Tracey described...

No... He's saying that anyone in that position needs a beating, that they're scum who can't be helped so instead need public punishment and ridicule.

As someone who suffers from mental illness himself, you'd think that he would see that help is required (and the majority of homeless addicts suffer from one mental affliction or another). I doubt we could beat the affliction out of him, any more than we could out of a homeless person...

That's what I didn't like about the point he was trying to make.

I'm still pondering if you mean they will die of suffocation.

I bet my donation wouldn't even cover a charities lunch expense.
