I'm after a taster day riding off road, preferably in the Cheshire / Shropshire / North Wales area. Does anybody know a company they would recommend please? I've found a few but they seem to be in Scotland! I'd be after bike and suitable gear hire too if possible.

I did the Yamaha offroad experience, it was some years ago but it was a great day out with all the gear and bikes provided, they're in Llanidloes so not too far from you.

If you were looking to buy a dirt bike anyway, I'd just do that and get to a local enduro practice or similar - as with track riding, you'll find a lot of the learning/experience initially comes from just riding.

If you weren't sure if it was for you, you can get a bike more capable dirt bike than a CRF-L for under £1k. Shouldn't lose anything if you decide to sell it again, either because you decide it's not for you or to downgrade to the newer plate'd Honda Smile.

The Yamaha one in Wales is good, the terrain is very good.

Oh; meant to add: the first times I did off roading, I used one piece 'race' kit.

I'd be using my on road gear too to start with too. It was second hand off eBay, albeit Hein Gerrick, so if it gets ruined I won't cry about it.
Thanks for all the help so far, I've emailed the Yamaha people and asked about their course, namely the dates as they aren't on the website that I can find. Hopefully it'll be asap!

The good thing about dirt biking is that you get to meet lots of nice people Wink

I was also planning to do the Yamaha one this year, albeit not until nearer the summer. Would be interested to hear what you hear back re dates and how you find the day, in due course.
