I'm considering a visit this year, is it too late how does one go about sorting accommodation, Hotels are too pricey, tenting is an option how easy is it to camp?

Have you tried looking for a b&b?
With nw200 im guessing you have to buy tickets to watch racing (I did for ugp) with the smaller races cookstown/tandragee/armoy etc its all free at armoy you would pay farmer a fiver to park your car in his field then free to find a decent spot to watch racing. Programmes cost around £10 all funds go to the club putting on the race

Camping is strictly controlled by the local council, official camping sites are available in and around Portrush though drink, BBQs and generators are generally banned unless you use the overpriced beer tents, food and drink is easily available outside the campsites especially around Portrush which is generally the most popular place of the NW200 week, you could try surrounding villages for alternative campsites and accomodation which are generally reasonably priced ( I rented a beautiful 2 bed cottage for the full week , self catering for 180 quid last year in Armoy)
For best viewing of the races you can walk between the Metropole corner and the start/finish line which is on the coast road, many great viewing spots with great cliff/coast scenery.

The NW 200 is free, there are charges for the viewing stands around the circuit but that is all.

It is a bit strange though the NW200 Gets massive sponsorship from large corporations which the UGP and the smaller local road races does not, the circuit is also very large with so many access points it would be almost impossible to police as well as many parts of the circuit running through towns which the organisers could not charge people to enter.

Hi Chris

I went in 2014.

I made a few mistakes in terms of how I did it that I'd not do again - hopefully I can lay them out for you:

1) I bought grandstand tickets at the start finish line for ~£50 each. Total waste of time and money, not worth it. There's plenty of better places to spectate including Metropole for a lot less money, or free on the road itself which has a better atmosphere. You can find places to park yo ass comfortably enough and it's close n buzzy down there - bit devoid in the grandstands
2) Doing the journey on ferry from Holyhead via Dublin and going up from there. Whilst it was, door to door (bearing in mind I'm close to you) about 13 hours so it doesn't seem a lot; a lot of that is on the road as the ferry is only ~2 hours if you get the one and only fast boat of the day. For me, it was too much in a one day hit. The other option is to go up to Liverpool and get boat from there but that's an 8 hour ferry - yes, 8 hours.... So that led me to:
3) I tented down in a place in Bushmills that was a great site as it was quiet and away from the chaos (I went with the wife, so it's not like we wanted lager filled lads around when we're sleeping) but in order to camp the amount of stuff you've got to take to be comfortable for a week is difficult on a bike, so took the car instead Laughing But the roads around the coast are so nice and I missed the bike constantly. Following onto:
4) If I were to do it again I'd fly, then hotel it. But that does make it prohibitively expensive. I reckon we did ~£750 even in the tent which is a lot of cash for what isn't the TT.

HTH Thumbs Up

Oh and on raceday proper - I parked the car on a side-road just up from York Corner, on the inside of the circuit (got there a bit earlier was all - traffic wasn't bad, and surprisingly no-one parked on the inside of the circuit because they didn't want to be stuck in, but who leaves before it ends anyway when you've made the effort to go?!) for absolutely bloody nothing, so all these people charging £15 or so for the day's parking can kiss my ass.

After the racing finished, we walked up into Portstewart for an hour, then went back to the car, muddled through the housing estate roads and came out right back onto the main road missing all the traffic - amazeballs result Laughing

Oh, and May, in NI, on the Causeway Coast, ain't warm..... ain't dry either.... Dress appropriately.
