Hi, wondering if anyone can please help me identify what the clip at the end of this cable is or how I could go about finding one?

my battery charger cable broke, and would rather just buy a new cable than try to fix it in the dark when i get in from work!

I did find similar looking ones, but the safety clip bit seems to be differnet

I would replace both plug and socket with This.

If you are having to charge the battery daily, I would recommend getting a new battery!

thanks I have grabbed that.

the problem is a little worse than it being the battery i think, it was a new battery last year, but after a few days of no use it would be flat. so something is draining it, but dont have the time / knowledge to find out what it is! so currently i put it on charge over the weekend and it is generally fine for the week

You'll also need a pair of ratchet crimpers like these:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SN-28B-Pin-Crimping-Tool-2-54mm-3-96mm-28-18AWG-Crimper-0-1-1-0mm-For-Dupont-/271362281285?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3f2e73cf45

They work in a slightly counter intuitive way - the open end of the crimp faces down into the open part of the jaw of the crimper and the die presses down on the back of the crimp. Plenty of Youtube tutorials for these though. Thumbs Up

im guessing that wont do!

Nope, afraid not. Those aren't even good for the crimp type they're designed for - there are ratchet types for those as well that do a much better job. Thumbs Up

Poor advise. Thumbs Down

Failing to shape the crimp with a proper die will result in early failure of the joint and water ingress along the insulation causing the whole wire to corrode.

I also wouldn't be soldering moving leads. It's asking for the cable inner to fracture just below the soldered point. The copper will do all the flexing just below this point, work harden then fracture. I'd just pout the crimp directly onto the cable making sure the insulatrion is trapped in the upper crimp.

I'd only solder stationary connections and even then, I'd solder them AFTER crimping, not before. You're trying to maximise surface area contact between the cable and the terminal. Pre-tinning isn't going to achieve that. Quite the opposite.

You can see a stationary cable crimped then soldered at the top right of this picture (where I replaced the corroded dash PCB on my VFR with wires and LED lamps).

No special tools and an inferior connection you mean.

Crimps are crimps for a good reason.

So buy a multimeter and check that its charging up as it should...

All that wasted time & money simply charging the battery up each week could be solved pretty quickly.
