BCF BBQ 2015 (Mwahahahaha)

Happy New Year All,

Not been posting as much as I've wanted to due to fatherhood commitments. Babies really do monopolise your time!

Anyway... I wasn't sure whether this was going to be possible this year and wasn't really going to go ahead with it. However the topic of having another BCF BBQ at my parents farm randomly popped up and the concensus was that they wanted us to have another.

Quoting my (slightly inebriated) mum

So as you can see I have chucked in a selection of dates - I have made these from Friday to Monday to give an extra day. Was thinking of a week but I don't think people will survive the carnage.

If you don't know about the BCF BBQ, please take a look at last years thread to acclimatise yourself. It includes pictures, stories and videos.. although it doesn't quite capture the atmosphere.

IDEAS

So some ideas would be great to try and make this better. I am going to make sure we are fully stocked with Clay Pigeons and Cartridges this year for some proper double barrel shooting. Also think that maybe allowing people to have a bash on the excavator could be fun. The field this year will be the one adjacent to the last BBQ - it is a lot flatter and would suit our needs.

My Plan...

This year I have an exciting plan to ensure it is memorable. I have been organising a "Beer Floating Event" for this Summer and have 50 people already signed up to it locally.

This it would be great to make it happen during the BBQ.

It's a little bit of this:

Down here for around 10 miles:

https://www.seatrout-fishing.com/sea-trout-river-towy.jpg

We will be passing river side pubs on the way and will stop off in Carmarthen town where we can jump on a bus and get back to the BBQ.

Obviously not everyone has to do it, if you don't then remain at the BBQ event.

For all those that pussy out this year - Spliff Dog Mocks You!!

Really want to join in with this one, this year!

I'm currently on the job hunt because PhD finishes soon so will come back later to vote for a date - or if it's been chosen, confirm/deny.

Sweet!

Hehe my Spliff Dog photo making it's appearance Cool

I'll be there. Will see which dates everyone votes for, I'm pretty easy apart from my wedding most likely in June.

What is beer floating?
Will I need my rubber Dingy? *edit - now that I'm home, I can see the picture, which just about answers my question Laughing
Does it mean sitting in my dingy drinking beer?
I should bring my life jacket.

I'm in. Either of the last two dates suit me, but voted 31st - 3rd to suit pay day.

Can we use a hose out of interest? That hill we were on last year would make for an amazing water slide with enough tarpaulin and washing up liquid.

Edit: Something like this:

Re: your beer float.

I do a fair bit of canoeing these days.

10 miles on green water in a purpose designed tandem canoe while both knowing how to paddle it and being sober is a reasonable distance for a leisurely day trip.

To give you an idea, my most recent trip on grade I moving water, on a reasonably quick flowing navigation with three competant paddlers, leisurely but efficiently paddling with the water flow covered 4 miles in about 3.5 hours (admittedly with one short portage round a weir).

10 miles in inflatables + alcohol? I honestly can't see it being done in a day.

Have you checked the route? The Towy has some bits I wouldn't take a fully rigged canoe on, never mind a lie-lo.

The following link may be useful, breaks sdown the river into sections with features and graded sections. Anything over grade I in a cheap inflatable with no experience is highly risky.

Good to have an experienced voice. Ok maybe 10 miles is a bit far... will trim it down a bit. The section of the Towy that I intend to use is very chilled out - it's wide and deep. The upper stretches are the dangerous areas, keeping away from them.

A homemade raft made out of beer kegs? Wink

I did some downstream Canoeing on the river Wye, it was surprisingly hard and took much longer than I had expected. Even with going downstream there seemed to be a lot of current to fight. However, with a kid as my 'crew', I probably had to do most of the work.

Am a bit lost with this as I don't even know what I'm doing for dinner tonight let alone 7months from now. Flexible on dates, but voted anyway.

Really enjoyed it last year, so no hesitation in coming again.

thanks to you and your folks for offering your space yet again.

Not so sure I'll be up for the booze float per se, I'm just interested in getting my brain melted in a field full of weirdos.

Still, game on.

If the 'beer floating' doesn't appeal to many then we won't do it. Just an idea... i'm going to do it at somepoint regardless so i'm not bothered.

Depends on vehicle in all honesty but should be up for this!

Not game for sitting on flowing water but if it's warm a water slide is a sick idea

As summery as we can make it please, that'd be nice
