First time poster here, and a novice bike rider.
Owned my bike for around 7 months now, with little to no faults considering I ride it to almost everywhere - rugby, college and mate's houses. However, today was where things started to go wrong.

(One thing you should all know - the battery casing is slightly broken due to someone snapping part of what locks it in place. So there is a small gap where things can get into.)

Today was a pretty wet and miserable day, had no problem making the journey to college in Poplar. However, the journey back was odd, no other way to describe it. It was raining when I left college at 4pm and I was riding through Rotherhithe Tunnel when the engine simply died on me. I was doing around 25mph, 5000 revs, when the revs suddenly decreased slowly, the engine warning light flashed up three times, and the engine slowly but surely died on me. Got onto the pavement, put it in neutral and kickstarted it almost immediately. Odd, I thought, but I soldiered onwards. Died again on Jamaica Road, exact same situation. Started thinking it was a fuel problem, but I had half a tank. Died once again on Borough High Street, where I simply restarted it and made the rest of the journey home.

Can anyone explain the problem to me or is it just an anomaly in what's been a perfectly good, working bike for me? Another note, the bloke who previously owned it had an immobilizer fitted himself - he was an electrician.

Sounds like a battery problem.

They most certainly do not like the cold and damp.

Best check it.

Place on ground. Perform maintenance.

Other than that, check your fuses, your earth strap (battery to frame or engine) and the security of any electrical connections that you can find, particularly the coil and CDI.

WD-40 is a water dispersant, this is one time I'd advocate going wild with it.

If it persists (or even if it doesn't) then I'd strongly recommend buying a cheap multimeter to help diagnosing the problem.

If at all possible, I would start by removing the DIY Immobiliser, so the wiring is back to standard. I have seen a lot of intermittent ignition faults caused by dodgy after-market accessories and wiring.

Seems the general consensus is electrics fault, which is good to know as I suspected as much.
In reference to the immobilizer, the fucker went nuts with the wiring so now I believe it's connected with the positive and negative wires, so I have to take the bike apart to get at it. The bike did the same thing again today, but less frequently. I'll take on board the WD40 advice and recharge the battery.
