* MAKE MONEY FROM YOUR FOOTAGE *
Another happy member received £200 from a third party company defending a Personal Injury claim who used this footage. Mrs Cohead said: "Having invested in a dash cam to protect my own motoring interests I am delighted that PoliceWitness secured me such a large sum of money when my camera caught a third party incident, thank you PoliceWitness".

they're selling dash cams on the back of some insurance companies paying out to witness who caught the incident on cam proving their customer was the innocent party / victim

The demo video shows someone over take a car that's turning right and T-bone it, the claim is without the footage it'd be shared fault / right turner's (he pulled out mate honest) fault costing mr right turner's insurance

The video footage proves it was entirely mr overtake like a muppet's fault and so Mr Right turner's insurance gave a cash thank you to the dash cam witness.

doesn't appear to be "He pulled a wheelie and killed seven kittens officer, that'll be £250 thanks"

I see a guy pedalling like the clappers on a folding bicycle with a helmet camera and a policewitness.com hi-vis vest on my commute nearly every day.

The word police is of course far larger than all the other writing and he causes a tailback because no cars want to risk overtaking a police cyclist, of course.

I expect he sends lots of footage in, too, because he can often be seen antagonising car drivers by riding in front of them, weaving about in his lane, and gesturing and shouting abuse to everyone who passes him and nearly losing his balance. I think he must be a bit of a knob, to be honest.

I use a dashcam, but purely for my own personal benefit. As in, hit and run type affairs or proving if I wasn't as fault.

https://youtu.be/aWYGezDU7sM

This happened to me last week, the driver stopped, but with the amount of uninsured/unlicensed drivers about, he could have just took off leaving me to foot any bills had damage occurred.

I'm not a cop and I'm not a grass, I would never turn in any footage I had unless it was to actually help someone out.

I think they are an exercise in rebranding cheap Chinese cams and then selling them at hugely inflated prices.

This appears to be the same as their £200 Camera just this one is £85

I wasn't aware of that! Still, if I had the chance, I'd rather the bill go his/his insurers way than for us all to pay collectively.

I can see a couple of problems with that website. Firstly it's doesn't make it clear that it not an official police service, I wonder how log it'll be before the real police consider impersonation offences?

Secondly the idea of making money out of accidents? They're practically encouraging people to go out and create incidents to report, sort of erm.. cash for crash?

Just out of interest why didn't you toot him (or were you looking at the sat nav/something else?).

Had the same thing happen to me quite soon after I started riding. Van reversed into me despite my horn going and frantic back pedaling, he was uninsured but I didn't claim.

In hindsight that should of been when I got a helmet cam' Sad

I wasn't in the car, I'd just pulled up to check the straps on my bicycle rack before I hit the motorway, it was quite a shock to be crouched at the back of the car to hear a loud bang and have the car jolt back at me.

To be honest I would be very weary of this as you could easily screw yourself over whilst sending in a video for screwing someone else over.

Aren't they basically telling you to withhold evidence and sign it over to them so they can bribe the insurance company with it. I wonder how much their cut is.

Quote:
Following a collision:
1) Exchange details with the other motorist as per usual, DO NOT mention the incident has been recorded on your in-car camera.
2) Notify your insurer in the usual way and complete the necessary paperwork. Most insurers now manage claims over the phone.
3) Ensure you have completed our Letter of Authority – allowing us to act on your behalf.
4) Make contact with our claims support team, by completing the Insurance Assistance form below
5) PoliceWitness.com will then contact your insurer – and tentatively make available the footage that proves the collision was not your fault. In doing so, saving the insurer money, yet at the same time negotiating cash back for you and/or a substantial reduction of next year’s premium. This includes safeguarding your excess and no claims bonus, even if it’s not protected.

How it works - whilst the other motorist may have admitted liability at the scene, it is standard practice for liability to be denied when the paperwork comes through from the other motorists insurer. This is quite normal, with each insurer taking care of their own clients repairs, it’s called ‘knock for knock’. This is a cost saving exercise, preventing lengthy and costly legal fees. Great for the insurer, however at a detriment to you, the policyholder.

Our members receive our complimentary Accident Representation Service, where we fight to ensure there is no financial impact on you following a collision. As it stands motorists are penalised even if a collision was not your fault.
In summary, we use your insurers decision to pay for the unnecessary costs of repair to your vehicle, and negotiate you cash back in exchange for the rights to use your in-car video footage to prove that you (their client) was not at fault. They will then use the footage to force the other insurer to cover the costs of repairing BOTH vehicles.

Why will your insurer give you cash back? It’s economics - The amount of cash back we negotiate for you, is LESS than the cost of the unnecessary repair they would have endured had there been no evidence in the first place. This is obviously a delicate negotiation carried out by our executive team.

A scenario: An insurer reluctantly agrees to repair their clients vehicle (a PoliceWitness.com member) due to the other side denying liability. The status quo. The cost of repair is £1700. Simultaneously PoliceWitness.com makes contact and negotiates on behalf of the member/client the rights to the video evidence captured by the in-car camera. The video footage is evidence, showing clearly the other party to be at fault. Subsequently the other insurer is now forced to pay for both repairs. The temporary video rights are in essence sold to our members insurer for £450, saving the insurer £1250 which they would otherwise have paid out. In doing so we safe guard any financial impact on our member, the innocent motorist.
Remember, we’re here for you.

If there was an accident involving myself, I'd be giving the dashcam footage to my insurer for free. That's to speed up my claim and reduce the hassle to me. None of this PoliceWitness.com "Tell us and we'll wait until you're losing then sell them the footage" bullshit.

If I captured an accident involving a third party and the victim was a decent enough person, they'd be getting the footage for free too.

If I captured an accident involving a third party and the victim was a dick, or there was no victim as they were both dicks, only then would I think about offering the video for monies to any insurer that was interested, but I wouldn't ask much - just something to cover my time.

It is your video, after all. You've bought the equipment and invested the time to set it all up and have it running. It's your footage, and I do support the idea of selling it under some very limited circumstances.
