Woke up this morning like a man on a mission! I had 3 R1's I planned to view around Berkshire and Wiltshire, but due to one of them being sold late on Friday, it left me with 2. The weather was dire, but a toyota celica shod with winter/snow tyres made the trip a doddle.

So off to Pro-Bike in Newbury to view the first bike on the list.

https://scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpf1/v/t1.0-9/p480x480/10924762_10153096797530712_3699124436438995046_n.jpg?oh=20066b67700ef81ffb71d937d718f4f0&oe=55640ADE

Walked in through the door at 9:30, and with intent, marched straight to the R1. I asked to pull the bike out, and took out a credit card to use as a feeler gauge and started probing into the brake calipers. Started stretching the chain out, feeling the tyres and bouncing the bike.

Some close shots

"Can I see the paperwork and service history?" were my next words. Haggled hard on the fact that the front tyre was cupped, oil looked manky and it had no R&G crash protection! Amongst other things, I "wasn't happy" that it didn't have a double bubble or alarm. All minor things I'm not typically fussed about, given the bike has a comprehensive full service history and previous MOTs!

What came next surprised. Not only did I get a nice wodge off the sticker price, the chap offered to put a new Bridgestone S20 on the front, give the bike an annual service and stick on 12 months MOT! Kev at pro-bikes cited that because I travelled a fair way in the snow, he figured I was determined to score a deal.

Anyway, deposit down and picking her up in a fortnight!

Goes to show that deals can be had in winter, and that not all dealers are there to screw you over. Top job from the chaps at Pro-Bikes in Newbury giving me a pleasant experience Thumbs Up. The last time I bought a bike at a dealership was 11 years ago! Needless to say, I scrapped the other visits!

Wink Thumbs Up Dress smart, turn up with some tools and follow these steps

Arrow Can you pull the bike out so I can have a good look? Just look for things you can knock price off on - any consumables. I exaggerated the point of rolling the tyres and cupping it, pulling the chain and feeling for the brake pads. Suffice to say, work was done to sort those items out in the service history, but I noted it.

Arrow Say you're a cash buyer! Some might say that old trick doesn't work, but the dealer doesn't need to know how you've sourced the balance - loan etc. Bear in mind credit cards will be a 3% surcharge

Arrow Buy in winter... for sports bikes!

If you sound like a well spoken customer and engage in banter, they'll like you. You need to sell yourself so it gives an excuse for the dealer to "like" you and want to sell it. I was going in for money off, but got a lot more than I bargained for!

Also, rock up in a cast and in really horrid weather, and you'll get sympathy points. Winter + middle to end of the month = keen to sell!

Well, you guys may have been wondering why I've been dormant on BCF over the last year or so. The answer is this.

https://scontent-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xfp1/v/t1.0-9/10394633_10152868963015712_7652862298618109011_n.jpg?oh=80524da1fee4b04fc7d3c98071a00e45&oe=556474D3

I've been seriously getting into my trail/all-mountain/enduro riding. Got a lot of nice natural trails near where I live so I decided to upgrade my "commuter" to something that allows me to commute and have fun in the weekend; in many ways, like the R1.

I had my accident the same time as Graham Jordan in november(incidentally, also rides an underseat R1), except mine was at the Forest of Dean downhill section.

About 50 metres from the end of one of their runs, a newb rider crashed out in front of me when he misjudged a series of rollers. I was going much faster than him, having exited the previous berm considerably faster. So, when trying to avoid him, I clipped a bush with my handlebad which threw me over. Did my right side royally - bruised shoulder, fractured schaphoid and a few cracked ribs. Strava got me in at doing 20mph as I hit the deck. I set 34 achievements on Strava that day, so I was pissed off that I couldn't do 2 more laps of the track! (verderers trail).

Cue me taking part in an NHS study for the understanding of wrist fractures. A lot of people in the population were given surgery as part of the treatment; so i got my scaphoid pinned. Long story short, I got referred to the physio too early because I was showing very good signs of improvement; no cast 10 days after treatment. I took that as an indication that I could resume weight training. 5 weeks after incident + doing bench presses = Crack still present in schaphoid, hence the cast is on until 11th feb!

It's not that I don't like my Fireblade, it's just I won't be able to depend on it for another 4-5 years. Once electrical niggles set in, that's it! Considering it lived outside for most of my ownership, it didn't really help with its durability and longevity. R1 or 1000rr was always bound to be the next step in terms of maturity.

Nah, I'm south west... working on Hinkley Point C! Wink Thumbs Up

Blade is being sold to Harley off here. If anybody's on my facebook, he's the primary cause why I'm getting de-friended at an alarming rate Wink Thumbs Up Mr. Green!

Sending it off the proper way, to a mate, so it can go onto the racetrack. He's taking EVERYTHING, spare fairings etc. I'm not even de-modding the bike, so it'll go with the remus can and PCIII as well as whatever spares I can find; wiring looms, spare speedo (defective). First thing he's gonna do is re-loom the bike, which is probably a wise choice, since it'll sort out all the electrical issues with the bike. Considering he's already got a 929 and loves them, my one with trick bits (Galfer rotors + HMRacing tuned suspension) is good to go.

If it had to go, it HAD to go cheap, and to a mate who knows what he's doing!

You should have done this Laughing

Cool videos - I went for the MTB but stayed for the oddly compelling mix of pop-punk/dance music. Where did you get it? You sound almost as bad as me with Strava!

Oh, cool R1 I guess Wink

Just checking out your freeride edits Rob! I love the freedom of full on trail riding, except sometimes, the penalties are always there! 10 years of sportbike riding, no problems, 18 months on mountain bikes and I've been to A&E 3 times. Lesson is, "When your body is telling you that it's enough riding for the day, do NOT hike up the trail for that last run!" Bonking hard having pedalled a kilometer up the trail to set a fast time for strava ALWAYS ends in disaster! Upside is, I chased my thrills, made new awesome mates who are more or less into the same things (some of them ride too, or did...before having families), and my licence is intact!

That last statement MIGHT change Wink Thumbs Up

Cards have charges associated with them yes, however you also get a fucking giant commission from selling someone finance so you're shooting yourself in the foot with that one boss. Laughing

Because it was the wildcard. 04 R1 listed at £3999 at bargain bikes in Swindon. It appeared tidy, but given the fact that the bike had mismatched tyres was saying something about the previous owner. Maxxis supermax rear and worn pirelli front.

It COULD have been a better deal, but when I saw how comprehensive the service history was, coupled with a 3 month engine/gearbox warranty, I was sold. Previous 2 owners bought the bike from Pro Bike compared to how many owners for the other bike. I was happy with getting at least £200 knocked off, but to get a new front bridgestone S20 to match the rear as well as a service + MOT in addition to £250 was enough to have me in. Besides, the reviews from pro bike were better. Hindsight's and content is wonderful thing, but when you came out with more than you bargained for, you just take it.

Anyway, I've got the following items ordered!

Arrow F Fabbri Double Bouble Scree
Arrow R&G Crash Mushrooms
Arrow Racing Levers
Arrow Stompgrips

Thing is, tyres don't tell of previous owners lack of money, it's the fact he clearly doesn't need to but matching tyres, buying into the con economy. When the triples bt016 dies, it's getting a PR4 on the rear, front can stay for max miles per £££ Wink

I'll ask again, are the downpipes stainless, if not why not Wink

Nah, even better...Titanium Wink Thumbs Up. The previous owner must have known that I like my Titanium a nice brown colour! Or the fact that he knows I can have access to nice 80-2500 grit wet and dry from work to bring back that lustruous blue patina!

Have you ever seen my Ti headers on my FireBlade? Nah, neither have I... The only thing that isn't Ti on the exhaust system is the Y-pipes. Mild steel for the section containing the Cat and Lambda sensor. I'll eventually get an arrow half system that junks the Cat.

As for tyres on that other bike!? Well, a mismatch between a worn pirelli and a maxxis is something that I don't want! That would be £260 on a set of matching PR4s loose.

In the mean time, mods have started to arrive at my door!
