So, I purchased a sony HDR-AS30V from John Lewis for £130 (cheapest price out there) and decided to go for a razz.

Screenshots from 1080p @60fps in direct sunlight were great

I do have 2 sample clips below. Nothing special, but it goes to show that the R1 handles winter grease pretty well. There was still snow on the hilltops this morning.

Raw Edit

Full Edit - Bimble around the Cotswolds

Private plate hasn't been purchased yet (as in the certificate of entitlement). But will be at some point. I've got a set of yamaha winter test decals on the go in order to cover up some scuffs and break up the sea of black.

Getting used to the bike now, and it is devastatingly fast. I mean, I thought the blade was like a 600 on roids, but this is so planted and composed. The ride quality is like a BMW 3 series. It's very taut, but quite responsive. I sometimes need to remind myself that I do have 160bhp on tap at the rear wheel, so any sort of loose road surfaces nd overbanding will cauuse a brief slip.

And I'm gonna echo what G has been saying all along... Litre bikes make you ride in a really lazy fashion. But if you were to use the upper end of the rev range on the roads, I'd be doing porridge. But saying that, it's more of a grown-up bike, and I'm glad I waited until now before I can appreciate the qualities of the bike and have the self restraint to enjoy it whilst bimbling.

BTW Wave, there might be some rad protection/health physics openings, but you won't be driving a corvette around!

Sounds similar to my experience with the VTR, I knew it wasn't the quickest bike but I still had to get used to the power delivery of a big V twin. Cracking it open in first will just flip it (with a mate on the back as we found out yesterday, half throttle will do the same Laughing ).The one time I slipped the clutch in second for an attempted wheelie on the airstrip it just span the rear wheel.

Bimbling along is a real joy though. Seriously meaty cans, such an awesome low growl. Checking peoples faces on the pavement is a game in itself. Laughing .

Nothing beats going through a village green in the cotswolds with my yoshimura slash cuts at tickover, smoothly droning. The best sound I love from the bike is the overrun as you're dropping into a valley or approaching a 30mph section into a town. The snap, crackle and pop.

Tell you what, it's making me enjoy my biking again. Better still, the roads adjacent to my mountain biking trails are epic! Granted, you wouldn't want to wrestle a litre bike through there, but pootling on NSL back lanes in the forests is as unnatural an environment for any race-track machine. I love it though!

Here's a shot from yesterday

https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpa1/t31.0-8/10353531_10153209112655712_306856572706432619_o.jpg

I just love being on 2 wheels now

Hit me up with a message if anything comes up , my skills should be in demand what with all the nasty bwrs I've worked.

Oh and the vette would be coming with, I'd avoid all the import duty because I've owned it for 6 months here .

Plus the thing does 30-32mpg on the motorway, can't grumble at that .

My GSXR1000 or Gs ex made me an incredibly lazy rider but ended up making riding not enjoyable .
to enjoy the rev range you are going some serious speed.

Not my cup of tea on the roads, on track however.....

But I'm glad I owned one , I'll stick with my v-twins :p

Update...

Fitted my winter testing decal kit, and had some spare vinyl lying about, so I decided to decorate her with a numberboard. Thumbs Up Could have done a better job with the numberboard, but I was horrendously hung over after moshing hard to Chunk No Captain Chunk and Yellowcard last night!

Never ever ride a 180bhp bike hung over, having spent a good night in a mosh pit after killing a bottle of bombay sapphire!

I don't know, riding hungover can be enjoyable as long as you don't cane it. Clears the cobwebs out of your eyes, all that fresh breeze is lovely especially with an old school piss pot helmet.

I have to say I really really like what you've done with the R1 there, it's all tasteful mods to make a good bike even better, exactly what I'd do. Even the vanity plate, although I'd probably go for Y600GAD in my case... initials, you see. Wink

Unfortunately, I broke my collarbone and wont be able to ride mountain bikes for another 6 weeks. In the meantime, whilst being laid off on sick-leave, I decided to do this! Ordered a set of Factory Effex EV-X graphics from the state and went to town. Not to everybody's tastes, but those who know me well will know the scheme reflects my personality - Loud, Lairy, Colourful & Unforgettable!

I actually quite like it, but the HDR effect on the image fucks it up horrifically.

Bit of a thread bump now. This goes out to anybody who has a 14B or a 4C8 R1 and wants to fill in that midrange gap, remove the throttle restriction in the first 3 gears and disable the air injection... GET YOUR BIKE REFLASHED

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2007-2008-Yamaha-R1-4C8-ECU-Flash-Remap-/291708671981?hash=item43eb3117ed:g:~r8AAOSwNSxVXmSK

I used that fella. Sent my ECU off to him, had it returned within 4 days and totally transformed the bike! It now drives pretty hard in the first 3 gears and has that linear power delivery which I knew the bike always had! Big Ham was wondering why my bike wouldn't wheelie off the power in second, but now it does so pretty nicely.

Other mods have included mirror blanks for the inevitable track days and an optimate USB phone charger wired into the battery. I just connect it to my SAE charging port onto my battery whenever I need it.

https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xtp1/t31.0-8/12138605_10153755468300712_2815926012190345333_o.jpg

Also won this off ebay for £65, so they'll go on. My adjuster block is totally illegible and inaccurate, so these Gilles chain adjusters will sort that issue out.

https://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/ODEwWDE0NDA=/z/XDIAAOSwxp9W4tnK/$_57.JPG

And for added tart value, I also got a new whip... Thought I'd stick it in there

It's mad what a reflash can do for the money, hoping to get mine flashed next month, looking at gains of 15bhp and the same with the torque, albeit with a full system and air filter.

Why would anyone spend £500+ on a power commander and dyno hours for road use is beyond me

Honestly, what's the point? Why not buy a faster bike?

Whole point with my reflash was that

- Exup valve had been disabled and caused a massive hole in the low-down power delivery. Reflash rectifies that by letting the ECU know that you're effectively running open pipes and fuels accordingly. Also stops the ECU from throwing a fault code when you disconnect the servo motor!

- I wanted to lower my fan engagement temperature to 100 deg C.

- I wanted to raise my idle by 150rpm so that I can just ease the clutch in rather than slip it.

- Exhaust stops popping and backfiring since they've disables the air injection.

- It removes the throttle restriction in the first 3 gears (like a timing retard eliminator).

Feedback from my mate who had it done on an MT09 was very positive. Since these bikes run a closed loop system, the signal is fed back from the lambda sensor. Noticeable improvement in Fuelling.

With the R1 I can see the point, but with a MT-09, buying a new exhaust system and then a rehash for a few BHP seems a bit pointless when you can go out and buy a faster stock bike.

Believe me, I've done the same in the past then realised it's pretty pointless.

Anyway, the bike following reflash is a beast! Slacker247 (Marcus), Harley and Big Ham (Chris) have coaxed me into doing a track day at Donny on May 12th so it'll be a good time to see how the bike handles and responds.

Anyway, won these for £60 and I can understand how they make a massive difference in chain adjustment! I never knew how much 0.5mm could make such a massive difference, but hey ho, hopefully no more prematurely worn chains!

Had to butcher a 2mm allen key to save time with the actuation of the worm gear! But it's a simple, yet effective design. I think I need a Ti nut to go with it!

I didn't flash my MT09 just for the power gains, like you said, that's silly. There was a heap of things it did, much like the R1 flash.

Disabled AIS system.
Reduced engine Decel
Radiator fan comes on at 88 degrees instead of stock 101...
Top speed limiter removed
Starts in A mode every time
Remapped to suit exhaust and air filter
Unlocked quickshifter function Laughing

It's completely changed the bike and my only regret is that I had done it sooner Thumbs Up
