I dropped bike at low speed new years eve on some ice, it cut out instantly. Since then its been intermittently noisy. I think its exhaust but cant tell - refitted headers possibly blowing a tiny bit, but this sounds a lot worse than that. Done 500 miles since (commuting abuse, not a gentle bimble).

I decided to drain, filter in 25 micron mesh and refill the oil. This is result:

Looks about normal I think? 7k miles (service soon), theres some tiny bits of metal - last pic were magnetic. The sand/grit probably came from bottom of tub as I poured it. To give some idea of size the largest bit of sand in the pic is about 1mm, longest bit of metal 5mm.

You have absolutely no mechanical sympathy do you.

Did you use new gaskets on the refitted exhaust is the obvious first question?

hard to tell as you hold the camera so close to the engine its hard to make out the volume of said sounds, could be something come loose in the can rattling around, could be that ding in the ignition cover has cracked the case inwards and is hitting the timing rotor(unlikely i'd say).
