PostPosted: 13:04 - 18 Jan 2015    Post subject: Crossfire Setup [Solved] Reply with quote

I've just bought a second R9 280x and stuck it in to crossfire with the existing card, but having never used crossfire before, I don't know if I've set it up right.

I think part of the problem may be the game I'm using to test the cards, which is AC Unity and basically broken and reportedly sucks up more juice than it should realistically need.

Any recommendations for what I can do to make sure I've set things up right? I reinstalled all ATI drivers when I put in the second card, as the catalyst control center is a terrible piece of software and I wasn't sure it would even notice the extra card.

Tl;dr bought a second graphics card, don't know if it's working right. Halp please.

Download GPU Z and see if that shows both cards.

You could download Furmark and run it to see if both cards are working.

If you download MSI Afterburner then when you're playing games you can see real time stats like how much each card is being used and their temperatures.

I do have MSI afterburner, but I didnt know it could do that!

Everything is showing that both cards are present and correct, with nothing to show that anything isn't working.

Oh ok. I just need Afterburner running.
I tried to get GPU usage to go to 100% and show the frame rate drops I was seeing before and I just couldn't. Everything set to maximum uses about 80% capacity. The only way I got to 100% was loading up a fast-travel point where the game has to load literally the entire map.

That'll run the cards flat out, it uses both GPUs much more than any game will.

i may be sounding silly here but you did enable it in Ati/Amd control centre?

If not check open it up then either click on the gaming or cross fire button on the left. A simple enable or disable button.

One suggestion is though crossfire hates alt tabbing out of games and normally crashes the driver out.

I can use both my 280x (well on of them is a 7970 ghz edition) on Assassins creed unity no probs but other games i have to disable the slave card to play games. (get tearing and fps drops).

There is an option in Catalyst control center(which I never had any problem with) You need to go to gaming or performance (I can't remember which) and then tick the enable crossfire box.

Crossfire was enabled in the catalyst control centre, it just didn't seem to do much. It seems to lock out a lot of features though when it's not a freshly installed copy, which is what I mean when I complained about it.
