I have a Dell T610 that is playing up, over the Christmas break, the server was restarted but hung at a screen prompt (drac card had failed - this has since been replace by dell)

when the machine came back online, i have been unable to log onto it both through an RDP (no available rdp license servers available supposedly...) an trying log on direct as domain administrator, it states

"The security database on the server does no have a computer account for this workstation trust relationship"

any ideas???

i need the data off the server, but then it can be flattened!

have you tried logging directly as a local admin.

once you have done that then I would remove it from the domain then re join the domain.

That should sort it out

As above.

Remove the pc from the domain and place into a workgroup, remove pc from "Computers" in AD, re-add the pc to the domain.

what duhawkz says, return it to a workgroup, restart, join domain again, restart. it should login after that.

Basic thing to check (assuming you can get in with a local account) - is the time correct when compared to the DC (excuse the archaic term)?

Normally this happens when Kerberos can't renew it's token which can be for a variety of reasons (the time being out of step is an easy fix if it's that).

If it's not critical then the quickest way around it is to drop the server out of the domain and then re-add it - if it's an AD 'Computer Account' issue then this will solve it, if it's not you'll get a more obvious error when trying to re-join the domain (e.g name resolution issues).

local admin wont allow logons due to "netlogon" service not being started

so i did this

C:\
cd windows\system32
ren utilman.exe utilman.exe.bak
copy cmd.exe utilman.exe

this gave me a command prompt from the windows log on screen, i used this to go into services, an tried to manually start netlogon - which failed with user permissions

oh forgot to add, its also a DC

Sad
