The battery, are you sure it is in good condition? Turn the ignition on put the lights on a squeeze the brake lever, do the lights significantly dim?

hi

nope the light on the r brake stays bright, however I have put charger on for last 30 mins and it tells me it is charging , I would of thought a good battery 12 mth old should have gone to trickle charge/full by now ?

it does sound like a battery issue when you try the starter.??/

My CG did that, sticky starter motor brushes, stripped cleaned and was fine, did it twice in a year but brushes are getting short.

My YBR did that and the starter solenoid had failed, rust had damaged one of the connections.
Try locating it on your bike and use a hefty spanner to touch both connections at the same time. If your bike starts then that's your problem. Fortunately they are cheap and easy to replace.

hi all thanks for replies:
the latest:
I wonder if there is multiple issues???

bumped it to get rear wheel moving and thus crank, the starter started.
replaced plug;
fired it it was awfull and would only fire and start while on the starter button, as soon as I let off the starter button it stopped.
lots of smoke out of exhaust.
this morning:
went to it: full charge on battery and started it, it fired and ticked over lumperly but noticed smoke from around engine case so stopped the engine.
I undid oil cap and at least 1/2 pint of fuelmixed oil came out.
so have we a rings issue????

Or a seals issue, or a carb issue.

Drain that oil and make sure your tanks vacuum isn't fucked, common on the early CBRs.

hi
thanks for the replies boys,

the smoke was grey,
I do wonder about carb as this was a replacement off ebay last year, recently stripped and cleaned.

tank is awfull it had been stood for 4 years when I got the bike last year and the rust inside was a bugger...I think the rust is not a issue anymore as it has been swilled out.

the vacum tube works as I did the test in the hayes book where you suck or blow ..can't remember which and the fuel came out of the tank.
