Is service history, as in stamped by dealer etc, actually worthwhile?
The first two services on my R6 were done by dealers, one from previous owner and the second was agreed on my purchase terms.
According to the E-manual that I bought from Korn's Bookshop then the second service is set for 4000 miles. I've basically given that the finger and the bike is now at 6000 miles with no dealer stamp. Oil was changed at 4000 miles and the bike is kept in a well maintained order - will the physical presence of a bikes condition overwhelm a stamp saying a professional spanner monkey has touched it?
I'm looking shortly to do a full service, plugs, air filter etc and check everything over - but is the idea of paying a dealer to do it purely for their over-rated signature in a book a worthwhile pay out?
I'm shortly to be selling the bike so want to do everything in my power to maintain the value of it, especially if it gets part exchanged at a dealers as I know how picky they are. But provided receipts are kept with details on mileage etc then will that be sufficient in the eyes of a prospective new owner?
Personally it wouldn't put me of provided the bike looked to be in a generally good condition, so a stamped service book wouldn't cry out to me that the bike is immaculate, but I certainly wouldn't be put off by a fresh un-stamped book!
Thoughts and opinions please..
Is an expensive stamp really worth it? ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

On a reasonably new bike I would say probably, on a bike under warranty I would say definatley.
If it is out of warranty what about going halfway and getting it garage serviced by a competant bike mechanic (but not necessarily a dealer).
A bike can look immaculate and never have had the oil filter changed, you can't tell by looking! Keep the reciepts for the oil and filters if you are doing home servicing, I would be more likley to believe someone who said that is what they were doing if I was shown some sort of proof.
Just my oppinion mind. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
