Just re-stringed my guitar with these, nice difference in tone to the last set.

Anyway, its my first string change so I was wondering roughly how long they usually take to settle down and not need re-tuning every time I play?

May depend how well you fitted them to the tuners, but maybe a day.

usually the first 10 minutes are horrendous at keeping in tune, some rough strumming general noise without actually playing i find helps loosen them up a bit.

They are good strings, got some D'Daddoritos myself a few times.

I prefer Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky myself. (orange pack)
Light top and heavy bottom.

I don't have trems on 2 of my guitars so usually they settle down quick.
The one with the Floyd Rose takes a few hours.

Use some GHS Fast-Fret (or something like that) after you're done playing, that'll help the strings to last longer. Thumbs Up

I've used nothing other than D'addario for the last 20 years (I use 11s though, not 10s). I find that Ernie Balls don't suit me and they snap more often and sound 'deader' quicker.

How well they stay in tune will depend on your guitar, your skill in stringing it, and where you keep it.

Normally I would expect my guitars to need 10 mins or so of playing in before they hold tune relatively well. I find that over tuning the strings as I put them on stretches them, and then I tune down to correct tuning, give it a thrash for 5 mins or so, retune and then everything tends to stay put.

When I'm gigging, things can get hot under lights, and being in a hot room so I check I'm in tune every few songs. Thumbs Up

couple of hrs if they are decent strings
I use lots of strings and go through about 5 - 10 packs a month
mix of 6 and 12 electric & acoustic
I like Elixier and rotosounds almost exclusively 10 - 45/46

5-10 a month? Even when I was gigging over a long period I very rarely changed strings. Recorded an album with strings that were around a year old.

I recently sold my last guitar, that had strings from 2008.

I find tuning, pulling away from fretboard about half way down, re tune then repeat for about 2 minutes settles mine.

Pfft, bunch of lightweights! 13's for me on electric guitar and even heavier on my acoustic. Usually in standard tuning but sometimes half a step down or drop D. I don't bend much though Laughing

I prefer a heavier string coming from bass where the strings are like ropes compared to guitar strings. I usually give a guitar a minute or so of hard strumming after a string change and re tune a few times and then they're ok. It's important to have fitted them right though as you can get tuning instability if you haven't put them on right (changes with different guitars).

Was just going to type this. I find that doing this helps new strings not fall out of tune so quickly. I generally repeat until I do it and the guitar stays in tune after doing it.

Pffft! Lightweight! I used to use 13s AND do a lot of string bending - well, playing SRV stuff, you've got to, don't you Smile
Gave up and ended up with 10s cos it was shredding my fingers though Embarassed

I also give new strings a bit of a stretch by pulling on them until settled in. Only takes a couple of minutes and they're soon settled. Don't overdo it though, a few gentle tugs on each string, retune and repeat a couple of times is all that's needed. Fast Fret and cleaning after every playing session helps them last longer. Too few or too many winds on the tuning posts can cause them to go out of tune quicker I find (3-5 full winds/post, couple extra on the thin, unwound strings usually seems about right). Gave up on whammy bars as they detune things too quickly and Floyd Rose trems I couldn't be bothered with. Learn proper finger vibrato!

I used to replace strings before every gig - a clear, lively tone was quite important to me. But then, we never got many gigs Laughing

well when you have over 20 guitars that get played regularly by quite a few people
and my son constantly de tuning means the strings don't last long thats why I tend to use Elixir's on my 12's
expensive (£20+ a set) but worth it

Well I suppose that is more than understandable Laughing

I had 2 guitars just in case 1 broke, one 7 and 1 6 string just mean't I down tuned the 6.

I use skinny top, heavy bottom with a low 60, alternatively on the 6, 56-12

It also depends on how you play the guitar. I ruin the e and b string quite quickly because I fap the neck a lot. I used to change the 3 bottom strings earlier than the top 3 strings, now I just don't give a damn. Thumbs Up

I change the strings once a year, I get a set of DR strings every Christmas.

can depend on the guitar as well my EW20 is set up for 10's so settles down quickly
but my Martin which was set up (Factory) for 12's takes a bit of playing heavy then a retune
