So my CG 125 is a 2001 model I believe, but it has no electric starter. The only way to get it going it via the kickstart. Served me well so far. Pit of a panic when you stall it at some lights, but hey.

Anyway, today I was kicking this damn bike for about 45 minutes, and nothing. Didn't roar into action once. It was fine yesterday, it just out of the blue, stopped working. Any ideas what it might be? Something I could fix? (Bare in mind I have next to no knowledge about vehicles).
I just don't want to take it to a garage again. Spent over £800 in the past 3 months because something new breaks on it every other week.

Thanks.

Jesus wept. You can put a brand new Lexmoto Vixen on the road for £920. Same engine, electric start, rev counter, gear indicator.

That aside, you've:

1) Posted in the wrong section. We have a Workshop section where you'll get better answers.

2) Given us nothing to go on. Have you checked anything at all? Fuses, spark plug, electrics, fuel? Are you trying with and without the choke? Help us to help you.

Sight unseen, I'd suggest checking that you've got plenty of fuel, that it's flowing from the petcock OK (disconnect the hose briefly from the carb). I'd drain the carb bowl - there will be a screw near the bottom to do this - and remove, inspect and clean the spark plug.

Then I'd sell the bike and make it someone else's problem.

Damn, that sounds like luxury to me, I don't even have a fuel indicator. Sigh. I bought it for like £600 and it actually worked for a while, and then just kept breaking, and by then It was already too late and i'd already spent too much fixing it.

Apologies for posting in the wrong section.

Since posting i've tried a few push starts, after like 4 attempts it finally got going. I drove it around for about half an hour, pulled up to some light, had it in first and held the clutch in. The bike died.
I had look at the engine and the black cable that goes to the spark plug was firing off electricity into other bits of metal. I could see the spark. I also tried to wiggle the black cable and shocked my hand, so I think that might be the issue. Something to do with the cable that goes to the spark plug, or the actual spark plug. Any advice what to do now?

Thanks again for the replies.

I would sell it, but I doubt anyone would want this rusty POS.

I'd open the carb up and clean it all out. Might be a blocked idle jet / main jet.

I'm a bit unsure what you mean when talking about the black cable. I assume you are talking about the HT lead. Are you saying sparks are coming off it? Or do you mean you are earthing a spark plug on the engine to test for a spark?

If sparks are coming off the HT lead then you need a new HT lead.

Yes, because of course blocked carbs are well known for diverting electricity through the HT lead insulation and causing it to spill out all over the engine....

It wouldn't be anything at all to do with degraded/melted insulation letting the spark have a change of scenery.

In fact, cleaning out the carb would probably tighten that slack chain and untwist the subframe as well as getting rid of the rust flux from the rest of the frame and making sure the indicators always work.

I read that bit and got bored.

A carb clean couldn't hurt if it wasn't idling correctly. Whatever Laughing
