i have a 1997 gn 125 and i have trial fitted an 18" wheel in the back it seems to be fine with the tire i want to fit. now im looking for a second hand wheel that will be compatible with the gn rear end my rear axle is 15mm diameter.
i have heard that the gsx 250 wheels should fit but i want to go for spoked wheels
im assuming that a lot of different wheels would fit, but i am new to this and i dont know how all the bikes differ ?

regards

There's a lot more to it than just axle diameter...

There was a GN125 with spoky wheels by all accounts, could see if one of those will fit (if you can find one) and relace an 18" rim onto the hub.

Thing is, why? What is it you're trying to achieve?

If you have a fairly standard and not utterly ruined GN, surely you'd be better off selling it and getting something far more suited to your wants?

At the end of the day it's a 125. If you're on it because of your age you'll (probably) be wanting something a bit bigger before too long - at which point your buggered about with GN will be worth about 50p.

If nothing else, insurance companies will take quite a dim view of a "heavily modified" 125 in the hands of a 'yoof', which will kill not only your insurance premiums but any potential resale market if/when you come to shift it on.

How much taller overall would the 18" tyre be compared to that of the 16" rear wheel?

With the standard setup, how close to the swinging arm is the tyre, not only at the side of the tyre, but also with regard to the mudguard. If it is a very close fit all round with a 16" wheel setup, then the bigger wheel may not have sufficient clearance.

i have trial fitted an 18" wheel with a fully inflated 3.50 18 enduro tyre and it fits fine with plenty of clearence in all the right places, it just needs the wheel pulled back in the drop outs a tad so the chain will need adjusting. the rear mud guard etc will all be changed any way
