Don't know if any of you have tried it but rendering is very quick indeed. Based on Chrome, going to test it more but it looks good. There are some issues with self signed certs but it is a tech preview.

What's the point? If it's based on something, then it is the same thing with different theme.

Or a different thing.

For example. I use chromium at home. Which chrome is based on. But is a different thing in that it's open source, I can use whatever extensions I want, whatever flash player I want and it doesn't report back to google.

It does!

all the extensions and other processes it seems to use. It's a very hungry browser. I have just this tab open with ad block and Extension manager as the only other addins and it's using over 200Mb of memory. Loading that 200Mb on startup takes an age on a hard drive.

To create Chrome from Chromium, Google takes this source code and adds:

A restriction that disables extensions not hosted on the Chrome Web Store (for Windows users on Chrome's stable and beta update channels)

Integrated Adobe Flash Player (proprietary license and code)

The Google and Google Chrome names (both registered trademarks)

An auto-update system called GoogleUpdate (some, such as the Debian or Ubuntu community builds of chromium, rely on the package management system of the OS as an alternative)

An opt-in option for users to send Google their usage statistics and crash reports

RLZ tracking when Chrome is downloaded as part of marketing promotions and distribution partnerships. This transmits information in encoded form to Google, including both when—and from where—Chrome was downloaded. In June 2010, Google confirmed that the RLZ tracking token is not present in versions of Chrome downloaded from the Google website directly, nor in any version of Chromium. The RLZ source code was also made open source at the same time (previously it was proprietary—and although the source is now open the feature was not migrated to Chromium) so that developers can confirm what it is and how it works.

Using the google search engine (or accessing any google site) will see data sent back. This is a different thing to using chromium browser.
