Am I due a tax rebate?

I am really unsure about this so maybe someone can give me a quick answer.
I started working in October 2014, earning on average 1000-1100 a month. I was under the impression that the tax year ends in April, so I shouldn't pay any tax until then because I would't have earned 10k that year. Am I completely wrong here and you just get taxed on anything that is above 10000/12 a month?

Look at your payslips and google your tax code and make sure it's not emergency or that you are on the correct tax code.

I'm in the same situation just not with that much money each month, as far as I'm aware it's income tax that if any you'd be due a rebate on and not the NI as far as I'm aware everyone pays NI regardless?

You can earn up to £10,000 per year. PAYE works on the assumption that it works out at about £850 per month you can get tax free as there's 12 months in a year. If you only become employed as in your case for part of the year then if i understand it correctly you'll be entitled to a refund at the end of the tax year on the sum you've actually paid tax on that should be free - eg below £10k.
I'd say that you should earn below the threshold in the tax year as a total so you should be entitled to a refund.
That's my understanding, I may be totally wrong....

What 1198 says is correct, and your employer's payroll should be adjusting your pay throughout the year to compensate for being below the threshold, hopefully sorting itself out by your last payslip of the year in March (tax year end is 5th April, so March pay is usually the last).

However, you haven't said if you've been working before that, if so that will also be taken into account. Again, unless your payroll department has messed up somewhere, put you on a wrong tax code, etc.
