Hi guys (n gals),
Having read something somewhere that an NSR could get 80 mile to the gallon I reckoned that it should be able to get about 200 odd miles out of a full tank of petrol (3 gallons/13.5 litres). Now that I have it it seems I'm filling the tank every 110 miles and it will only take about 7 litres of petrol! I know the reserve is suppossed to hold 2.5 so where the hell is the 3.5 litres at in my tank? Why am I getting such poor mileage?!

Cheers

Craig

110miles per tank is what you should be getting.

When I first got mine I was thrashing it whenever I could and was getting about 100 miles to the tank. Now I take it a bit easier (usually Wink ) and keep it in the 5-6000rpm range. I can ge about 160-180 to a tank. And the capacity thing got me at first. I always seem to put in about 6.5 litres when I fill it right up. But I never let it run down to reserve, and you can't fill it completely up unless you straddle it and hold it upright.

HTH Thumbs Up

Cheers Fuzz! I thought I had a freak bike! So you reckon if I keep the revs between 5-6k I should get optimun performance? I'll give that a go. Very Happy Ma bikes de-restricted, would that make a difference to the economy and does the economy rely soley on the revs and not the gear?

Secondly, What sort of Revs do you keep it at whilst in traffics jams, or slow riding? I've found the bike wants to stall when left ticking over for about 30 secs so I give it the odd rev to about 3k . What revs should I try and maintain so the spark plug doesn't become clogged with oil?

Cheers

Lol, I also forgot to ask about this! Giving its a 125 I'd feel a bit of a c*nt wearing leathers, but I reckon that coming of at 60 regardless of the size of the bike is gonna hurt. What protection would you advise for the little beast?

Cheers

The spark plug should only become clogged if you leave the choke fully out while riding. From cold, you should leave the choke out for 30-60 seconds, and then fully off. If the bike still stalls I run it with choke for a bit longer, then off and it's usually ok for any amount of time. What speed does it idle at? Mine is around 1200-1500.

I usually run at about 4k rpm in second when filtering, but the bike pulls from lower down. The ecomony is pretty much down to the revs - the more revs, the more fuel is being burnt in a period of time.

With leathers, I wear a leather jacket with armour in the shoulders and elbow, a good pair of jeans and DMs.

When filtering between traffic, it's best to keep the speed down. I think a few people on here go by the "no more than 50% of the speed limit" rule. If my bike drops below 4k, I can still pull away without stalling, albeit at a snails pace to begin with!

I've covered 120 miles in a day with my bike, it's a NS125R not a NSR125 though. I had 4 breaks, went out in the morning and came back in the afternoon.

Hi

When I had my MBX125 many years ago I moved up to Nottingham but still headed down to Winchester / Portsmouth most weekends. So that was 300+ miles most weekends.

All the best
