I currently am in the search for insurance.

The two leaders at the moment are Bennetts and Carol Nash with £14 difference for Fully Comp with Legal Protection.

Does anyone have any views/experience with these companies and can offer any constructive (no flames please) comments.

Also has anyone used the Carol Nash breakdown ? I currently have AA for the car so am unsure if it's worth paying for recovery twice.

I'm with Carol Nash at present. I've always found them helpful and willing to assist when I've had any questions.

I've used their Breakdown service once when I had an electrical problem and the representative appeared within 15 minutes and had me up and running within the hour Thumbs Up

I'm pretty sure the breakdown cover also protects you whilst travelling in Europe which is obviously worth having if you're considering biking abroad.

I've used Bennetts in the past and had problems getting a cover note out of them in time to register my new bike, even though they had constant reminders for two weeks before hand. They also quoted me a ridiculous renewal when they decided that they could only offer me F/C cover, where I had always previously had TPFT. I had never made a claim with them and now it looks like I never will. Wink

Never used Carol Nash, found cheaper elsewhere.

Good luck.

I am with Bennetts....
they charged myself and Fiance £140 for the year.
They sent the relevant paperwork to the bike dealer within 2 days so my bike could be taxed, etc....
My paperwork arrived the same day.
Really good service.

We rang Carole Nash first...
they wanted £400!!!

Seems a big difference there for nothing.

Before you take an offer from either, give Danny's service a try!

He's saved a shed load of money for a lot of people on here. I wish he'd been doing the service when I got mine, might have saved me even more! Wink

I have always found Carole Nash helpful. They mostly seem to know something about bikes when you phone, they answer the phone pretty promptly with a minimum of computerised button pushing and usually have the documents on your doormat the next day.

Carole Nash recovery is as good as any I have used, they don't always attempt to repair your bike but they WILL take you anywhere in the country, not just to the nearest garage. A mate of mine was recovered about 400 miles on one occasion.

I'm with direct choice (who then insured me with AXA) and as a 29 year old living in Liverpool, 0 NCB on a Yamaha Thundercat, garaged, fully alarmed etc they were by far the cheapest at £580.

On the subject of legal cover, you pays your money, you takes your choice. I've wandered about what we get for paying the premium, so after checking with the house insurance people, I find out I'm covered through that so no need to pay twice.

as for race can, I think it depends on company to company with some being a lot more sympathetic than others. I think it would be wise to let them know, we all know that with the current climate they will do anything to get out of a claim. I know you could change the can if you have an accident, but if you come off a lot worse, you won't get a chance. Again, an up to you really...

Personally, I would avoid Bennetts. Here's why:

I had my scooter insured with Bennetts. Bought my CB500, rang up to upgrade the policy... "No I'm sorry we can't do that, we'll have to refund you and start a new one".

I was in a hurry to get the insurance sorted out so I could pick the bike up, so I just went ahead and did that, losing about 8 months of No Claims Bonus.

Nine months later, I ring up and enquire about upgrading the policy again, cos I'd just put the deposit on the CBR... "No I'm sorry we can't do that, we'll have to refund you and start a new one". Evil or Very Mad

Their 'full European' breakdown cover was great, provided you didn't need to have your bike recovered more than 15 miles - you pay per mile after that.

Those refunds took about 6 months to arrive in my account each time. With some phoning around I insured a CBR600 (same address, same NCB) for £165 LESS than Bennetts charged for a CB500. Confused
