I've been trying to get my seat off my '98 ZZR400 for a week now and I cannot figure how to get it off. There's a can of something in there, but it is in Japanese and I'm scared to bust it and try to pull it out. I'm thinking about snapping off the marked piece to try and get to the release lever. I plan on buying new fairings for it anyways so I don't mind hurting the fairings to bad. I just have to get to the fuses to check to see if my headlight is blown or not, also the dash is acting up now so I need to get in there! Any advice anyone?
Pic shows piece I may be able to snap off.

Not sure how snapping that off would help. My model uses 2 bolts but here is the manual section for yours.

Silly question how are you trying to get it off?

You do know there is (usually) a lock you undo with the key to remove the seat

Yes of course I know there's a key lock on the seat XD

The can Is getting stuck on the lock of the seat, so its blocking the seat form coming off.

Tomorrow morning I'll try putting a little more muscle in it to try and get it off.

Hi

Doubt that taking that bit off will help that much for getting at the latch. The latch is quite a long way forward of that.

All the best

Are you not able to get a long screwdriver or something in there to try push the can far enough out the way?

I'm familiar with the ZZR600, looks similar…

Turning the key on mine allows the seat to move backwards slightly and lift off, there are a number of forward facing hooks that lock under metal loops to hold it on.

You'd do better attempting to take side fairings off to get at the latch, although they share the same screw that holds the little plate on you're looking at breaking off.
