Has anybody on here had experience with the 748 restricted to 47bhp? I'm in love with it but as I'm only on my a2 license I can't ride it unrestricted. Also, if anyone has known of it being restricted, which model of the 748 was it because I can only seem to find it 0.8kw OVER the 70kw limit (70.8kw/96ish bhp). I'm aware that it may seem silly to older bikers (who didn't need to do any of this) that I want to restrict a 748 but I absolutely love the bike and the way it looks. My dad has the 916 (1998), has owned it for years and he hasn't had many problems with it, so keeping my 748 in good shape shouldn't be hard. If this was 3 years ago and I had to restrict it to 33bhp I wouldn't of bothered, but 47bhp really doesn't seem too harsh to me. I understand it won't be the most healthy 2 years for the 748 to be on 47bhp but when I'm 21 and have my full A-cat license I can take the restrictor off, meaning I don't have to buy a new bike as the 90ish bhp will be like a whole new bike! The SV650s is my other choice, I know that's a great bike but if I can go for something more exciting and fulfilling then I will. Thanks for reading! Smile

I am not getting the bike if there is no 748 option that fits the A2 license, I'm aware dozens of people are riding models of 748 on A2 license that's why I'm wondering which one or how people are doing it. I can only find model with 0.8kw over the 70kw limit. Not sure why that guy didn't just restrict his Honda CB1 - it was only about 6kw over ? 41kw to 35kw ? Wouldn't of made much of a difference!! Sounds like he wouldn't of been caught if he wasn't doing 56 in a 30...which in itself is pretty atrocious

There's more than a whiff of bullshit surrounding this statement.

There are all sorts of claims for the power of various models of Ducati 748. It looks to be over 70kW though, and it's not listed on the DSA's list of A2 (restricted) bikes.

So don't kid yourself, it's not an A2 bike, and you're not going to make it so by restricting it.

Even though you're already a Billy Bullshitter (dozens of people riding them on an A2, don't insult us) what you definitely shouldn't do is to go ahead ride it anyway at full power while carrying a convincing looking piece of paper saying "Is restricted 35kW A2 bike, totes offishul". Because that would make a complete mockery of the entire idiotic testing regime.

Edit - I read it wrong yes you can ride a Ducati 748 on an A2 insurance might be expensive though.

It will be legal if I can find the bike with 94bhp/70kw, not 95/96bhp = 72ish kw which is illegal to restrict (on an A2 license).

It's about 700/800 pounds for me. I'm 19 + have 3 years no claims and a completely clean license.

My dad has said that the older ones can be 87bhp but I'm yet to find one, I will need the factory reading to be 87bhp. Not just the owners Dyno as unfortunately if I'm pulled I don't think a Dyno reading will cover me for what power the bike is. (Would be good if it did though!)

Seems like an odd choice of bike to derestrict. I was under the impression the 748 needed to be revved to get the best from it, wouldn't restricting it take away all the characteristics and performance ?...

Will it also make it sound like a bag of sh!te ?

There are probably better, and significantly cheaper, 15 year old bikes to restrict.....

If you wanted a Ducati, would a small capacity monster not be a better option ?

Neither is your advice. The chance of getting pulled over by police is so incredibly minimal. The chance then of having an officer identify that your bike wasn't restricted, was over the 97bhp to begin with, or that you're on A2 and what that implies...

Granted you are technically not legal, the chances of being caught are so small I wouldn't even care about them. Just don't draw attention to yourself by putting de-wadded termis on it or something and doing 100mph everywhere.

If you do end up with a stream of blue flashing lights behind you, the 748 is basically a small race bike. Show them what it can do.

I'm with Copycat on this.
I'd agree that most policemen won't know the law or the difference, but you only need one clued up traffic plod to start digging a little deeper and you're getting problems coming your way. I imagine a 19 year old on a 'small race bike' would attract attention more than a fat 40 year old as well.

Ps good luck on thinking you'd outrun them too.....
Why not get yourself a Monster that could be legal on an A2 and spend the time tidying up a 748 or 916 ready for your 21st birthday?

Depends where you are. Of course if it was actually restricted it would be a different story...

I can only see you attracting attention if you're doing something wrong, which is going to cause issues regardless what bike you're on. Police don't have age-vision either.

To OP - If you're actually going to restrict it don't bother. There's no point in riding a sports bike restricted to 47bhp. It'll be shit, and you'll get outrun by old men on Harleys and diesel Audis.
