Get another 320mm disc and another 240mm disc, along with another chain and sprocket kit, with shorter gearing for better bottom end. If you are buying another set of wheels, go the whole hog. I even have spare plastics for off-road on my pit bike. I tried swapping everything over from one set of wheels to another on my TTR 250, I did it three times before I coughed up for a second set of stuff.
The 320mm disc may well be a bit much offroad, but after the first brake/lock-up you'd learn to modulate it better. Two wheels is so much better than compromising with tyres. I don't know how the caliper fits to the forks on the SM, but you might be able to make a bracket that moves the caliper closer to use a slightly smaller disc. ____________________ Current:1991 Honda MT50 (Soon to be a H100/MTX/MT5 hybrid), 1976 Honda Cub C70, 2005 Honda Varadero 125, 1993 Yamaha TTR250 Open Enduro , 2010 Road Legal Stomp YX140, 1994 Honda CRM 250 MK III, 1999 Cagiva Mito 125, 1992 Honda CB400 Super Four, Stomp T4 230, 1984 Honda H100s, 2009 Sym XS125K

You may also need a DRZ-400S speedo drive so your speedo will read correctly, the SM one is different due to the smaller front wheel. Not a big deal for some off road now and then but something to remember when your on the road.
The AC10's are great, I had a lot of fun in the snow on mine Update if you get a bit of wobble/weaving at higher speeds, I think it's my tyres but I'd like to be sure
Bike looks great by the way! ____________________ 2007 - KTM 990 Adventure |

I always used to run AC10s on my TTR 250, I never had any issues. They never used to slip or cause wobbles. Well, it would cause wobbles once the front tyre had worn down almost completely, like a bald patch down the centre of two strips of knobblies!
I wouldn't worry about speedo's. Apart from my Varadero, none of my bikes have a working speedo. I just do whatever speed the car in front does, when I catch up with one.
I need to get my new tyre on the back of my CRM at some point, and a smaller sprocket for the front for a bit more bottom end torque off-road! ____________________ Current:1991 Honda MT50 (Soon to be a H100/MTX/MT5 hybrid), 1976 Honda Cub C70, 2005 Honda Varadero 125, 1993 Yamaha TTR250 Open Enduro , 2010 Road Legal Stomp YX140, 1994 Honda CRM 250 MK III, 1999 Cagiva Mito 125, 1992 Honda CB400 Super Four, Stomp T4 230, 1984 Honda H100s, 2009 Sym XS125K

thanks for the info guys
got the new ac10s put on they're a little dangerous on road at 50+ mph only going to use them at the weekends
the tires have a lot more grip off road than the old knobbly tires
i almost sent the bike bouncing after flying up a grass bank doing a 10 ft jump off the top of it and landing almost vertical on the back wheel lol
i had to change the brake pads, think the rust off the new discs wore them down to almost nothing
thanks and happy biking

I love my AC10's. I think they are the best compromise tyre for the money. I can't get them to slip on the road, I don't know why people always complain about them on the road, maybe the TTR just wasn't powerful enough to cause issues, but I would regularly play chase the roadie with them without issue.
The Dunlop Geomax MX51 on my CRM. Another kettle of fish altogether. When I smack the throttle open on that bike, it's 50/50 whether I accelerate or light up the back wheel. I need to test my new Michelin Enduro Comp 4 now, see what that's like. I dropped my gearing from 14/42 to 13/45 and the thing pulls like a demon now!
Where are you in the country? I quite fancy a ride-out with someone at some point, I get bored of riding on my own all the time. ____________________ Current:1991 Honda MT50 (Soon to be a H100/MTX/MT5 hybrid), 1976 Honda Cub C70, 2005 Honda Varadero 125, 1993 Yamaha TTR250 Open Enduro , 2010 Road Legal Stomp YX140, 1994 Honda CRM 250 MK III, 1999 Cagiva Mito 125, 1992 Honda CB400 Super Four, Stomp T4 230, 1984 Honda H100s, 2009 Sym XS125K

I'm in Warwickshire, I need to get a bike trailer and a car with a tow bar fitted, my knobblies would just get trashed in that distance. I put 100 miles on the Comp 4 tyres on Saturday, they grip well in the mud. But I tried to wheelie, in third, and I sat back, revved and dumped the clutch and just did a wheelspin down the road. Next step, a softer compound front tyre. The Michelin is noticeably smaller after just 100 miles, I reckon it will be gone in about 1500.
Did you stick with the 320mm front disc? I ask as I want to get a bigger disc on the front of my CRM, the current brakes are dire, and you can get a 320mm disc for an XR400, which shares the same hub, I believe, then it would just be a case of making a bracket to shift the caliper back. I'm worried it may be too strong though for the dirt? ____________________ Current:1991 Honda MT50 (Soon to be a H100/MTX/MT5 hybrid), 1976 Honda Cub C70, 2005 Honda Varadero 125, 1993 Yamaha TTR250 Open Enduro , 2010 Road Legal Stomp YX140, 1994 Honda CRM 250 MK III, 1999 Cagiva Mito 125, 1992 Honda CB400 Super Four, Stomp T4 230, 1984 Honda H100s, 2009 Sym XS125K
