Anyone got a daytime MOT?

Does the certificate look any different to a normal one?

I have a bike that was MOTed with lights on but I want to chop lumps off it with an angle grinder later on today which will leave it without. If the certificate is different I'll need to get it MOTed again (before it is due) in-case of overly nosy coppers deciding to check.

Yes. It does look exactly the same (as it's actually a full one they gave me Laughing

) but all they do is write daytime only on it. Thumbs Up

daytime MOT, can i just ask, how can you define the "cut off" for getting your daytime bike off the road

as some days are darker than others, sunset changes daily

i know its obviously common sense, but what if you get caught out?

I believe its after sunset that your not allowed to use the bike, so no matter what time sunset is, be it 5pm in the winter or 9pm in summer your not allowed to use it after then.

Well thats my understanding of it anyway.

You are not allowed to ride one a certain time before sunset and after sunrise. Sunset is a pre-defined time, a list of sunset times is published by the met. office every year. You will find them listed in amongst all the other stuff you get in the front of pocket diaries and in most newspaper weather reports.

It is all about planning ahead.

FYI I came across these sites about MOTs, may be of some help.

Appears if lights removed then it's a daylight use only MOT. Think that's 1/2 hr after sunrise and 1/2 hr before sunset.
