Just spent a week doing a das course, awesome experience, gave me a totally new insight into roadcraft and how to be a better rider, shame I rode the mod 2 like a total bag of sh*t.. no style nanything really. Wish i had a cam it was pee take bad... two majors in placement , creasting a hill and a roundabout lane cross.. basic skills...tut tut..

Goodnews though the lad I went through with nailed it and passed with one minor and was proper made up Thumbs Up so it was still goodnews on the day. But I came out of it with one insight, if you think thrashing a 125 on the daily commute grind is anything to do with riding - er no..

Happy days - mod 2 to do Thumbs Up

Next time and all that.

You should be at or above test standard on your commute though. Tut Tut

Bad luck - probably nerves, but you will nail it next time for sure.

I always though that a DAS course should teach you how to pass the tests, not how to be a good rider...

I would hate to fail on that though - what is it?

Props to you for the positive mental attitude and all that.. I'd definetely be beating myself up a lot more than you are & secretly hating the other lad for passing when I didnt Razz

Jokes aside, you know where you went wrong. The good vibes you got from enjoying your course maybe made you a little complacent but you'll cane it next time.

Have you already booked a re-take?

Failed to wheelie. Sad

Better luck next time at least you now know what the Mod 2 test feels like and what to expect on the next one. It took me 4 attempts to pass the old style test in 2002 after a few DAS attempts and failing for different things so I know the feeling of frustration - having spent so much time / money you have to persist with it and keep calm on the test day. Thumbs Up

hahaha - I know, but ride like a tit...

Anyhow, I was chuffed for the other lad, he deserved it without a doubt.

Cresting a hill in the wrong position; apparently I still had both wheels on the ground.. One wheel is a minor, both wheels - tut tut..

Really, I did a hill start and moved from position 1 to position 2, when I should have stayed in position 1 has I couldn't see over the hill and a car may have come over and wiped me out... bollox? not really, many years ago I lost a good friend doing the same thing while he was delivering eggs in a van and got taken out by 4x4 coming over a crest, but i thought thats why we did the swerve test in mod 1.. oh well - live a learn, anyhow still doesn't distract from my overall sh*t state of my whole mod 2 ride in genral.

Either way - I’m now treating the commute like a test, it's a bit different, mirror mirror, shoulder, signal, shoulder, move, signal off and all the other road users are confused to hell about why a bike isn't filtering past everything and riding "proper like" at 7:45 am on the rat runs... I’ll probably get a tug for appearing to be p*ssed or something..

Not to worry - my main issue was forward planning and approach speed, as my instructor said, "Nobody has time to show that they are checking and assessing everything when swinging around the islands at near the speed limit.

So, time, speed, process and placement - not too worried to be fair, I had a bad run and only myself to blame, so pick up, head down and here’s to next time. Just got to work out some dates with everyone - hopefully about three weeks Smile Thumbs Up

The more I read about how people have failed their test, the more I think I got lucky on test day.
Too late DVLA! I'm hiding my certificates where you can't find them! Razz

Good luck next time dude. Thumbs Up

It is alright. You'll get it next time.

Mod 2 as people say the easier one is quite the opposite considering you give the test in an unpredictable environment with countless variables. Anything can happen on the road.

Whereas Mod 1 is a controlled environment test. Not much can go wrong and if it does you know what to specifically work on.

Would it be practical / worthwhile getting some practice in, using the route you took on the test?

I heard that most examiners prefer to stick fairly closely to the same route.

It is, it does, I did... My instructor is really good, and we spent lots of time around "the routes", on the day still I rode like poo, really I think a lot of "little" things may be forgiven so long as you ride with confidence and ability and the examiner "feels" good about it - not me not then so fait play. The only thing that peeeved me was I've had a clean 1st time pass for all my other driving entitlements up to the mod 2 Embarassed

One thing I would say though, I'm in not a bad shape, and spent my youth moving about, living in vans and surfing, I go the gym 4 time a week - but at 39 yrs old 4 days straight in cold February, for the first time on a "big bike" (CB750 Smile ) my body was screaming at me, tense aches and cramps, and oh sh**t my knees.. - I'd consider a day to recover in between tests if doing it again (old age!!)

Wahoooooooo it's Saturday! Smile
