https://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/news/business/business-news/bgl-group-releases-specialist-motorbike-business-in-26-million-deal-1-6569357

Quote:
Finance giant the BGL Group of Peterborough has sold its specialist motorbike insurer Bennetts to Saga in a £26 million deal.

Bennetts has 200,000 customers with 43 per cent aged 50 years and above and 77 per cent are over 40 years.

The deal will allow Saga to increase the range of insurance agreements it provides.

Bennetts employs 93 people, including a number working at its contact centre in Coventry.

A spokesman said: “The Bennetts team is one of the factors that make the business so attractive and all Bennetts employees will transfer to Saga, albeit remaining in Peterborough.

“Our aim is to focus on markets with high growth or high margin potential as well as those with real scale potential – such as intermediated home and motor as well as price comparison. ”

I was surprised that Saga would want a bike insurer, but given that 43% of Bennetts customers are 50 or over, it might be a good market for them after all!

My ped is with Bennets. Awesome insurers, they dish out free vouchers for pasties at petrol stations and fry ups at little chef. I'm guessing that will now change to rolls of yarn, old shag tobacco and copies of the Daily Fail.

Bennetts were shit, they never gave me a decent quote ever, I used go through a broker mainly using Norwich union who were miles cheaper, good riddance to them.

Just a fat cunt that lives in range of a shell garage and a little chef so have truly kicked the arse out of their food promotions. If I add up the cost of all the free shit + what I sold the free meerkat toy for the (miniscule) policy on the ped has actually paid me.

Hi

My father was insured with Saga when they had a major house insurance claim. They were dealt with very well. Might improve Bennetts customer service.

All the best

Keith

I'm with Bennetts, never had a problem with them. They were not the cheapest, not even in the top 10, but they were imo the best value for what I was after.
I would rather pay £40 more for a reputable and known bike specialist insurance company than go with the cheapest who I've never even heard of.

Saga I have never dealt with (I'm too young!!) but it seems like a logical choice to bring Bennetts into their portfolio given the customers... reel them in when they're in their 40s and you'll soon be filling up those Saga Cruises.

I'm with Bennett's, they forgot to update the MID despite me telling them I'd had letters from the DVLA threatening to kill me for no insurance. Eventually they did it, after about 6 months, and they had to write the DVLA a letter asking them to retract the fines they were dishing out.

I've been with them 5 years now. Not next year. Confused

200,000 wrinklies! And that's just one insurance company. Not a bad number for an essentially (expensive) leisure pursuit.

Mr Tony Burton was insured with Saga who lied to a police constable about his cover, resulting in the unlawful seizure of his friend Mr David Ashley Pryor's car, leading to the infamous "sorry tale" all the way up to the Court of Appeals.

On that basis alone, Saga motor insurance can suck it.

26m isn't a lot for what must be one of the leading UK motorcycle insurance brokers. Just shows how little money there is in it.

You'll want to get yourself an Enfield, chap, that's more their style now.

Exclamation Not the GT, that makes 29.1 bhp Exclamation

Saga seem pretty reasonable, one of their older customers decided to drive into the back of Crabstick Junior whilst he waited at a red light on his bike just before xmas, they were on the phone the next day to tell him their client had admitted full responsibility.

The next day a van turned up with a shiny XJ600 for Junior to use whilst they took his bike away for assessing, they wrote it off sadly but we bought it back and after a few cheap repairs it's back on the road and Junior has 3 k in his pocket.

Bennetts on the other hand are a bunch of useless cock wombles who give decent quotes for the first year then go completely uncompetitive for some unknown reason when it comes to renewal, they also seem to struggle with setting up a direct debit (3 times attempted) and then send rude threatening letters even though it's their mess up.

Bennetts did me a good price in 2014, can't see me being able to afford them now SAGA's bought 'em. A few years ago Carole Nash was bought out, prices through the roof, a couple of years past Footman James too, same thing............back on the 'net' again !.
