Hi

Interested in both 2004 and 2006 ZX10R. I much prefer the looks and cost of the 2004 model; but am a little concerned after finding that the popular belief is that the 2004 is more likely to get me killed/crashed than the 2006 model.

Yes it is more aggressive and possibly for more advanced litre bike riders; however, in that regard is there much difference between the two models? Are the rumours true, or is there an equal risk in loss of control on the 2006 model?

I want the 2004/5 model more, but am weary due to the rumours. Your tips/feedback would help a lot Thumbs Up

The 2004 is almost as much of a cult bike as the 98 R1. It's the only one to go for because:
1, it's the only ZX10R that ever looked good and didn't have any fugly features. Some later ZX10's look horrible and all Judge dread.

2, It's not exactly a common bike, as not that many people bought them new, either cos of the mad reputation, or because of the GSXR1000 and Blade!

3, following on from above it's going to be a classic like the TL1000S is now etc, and will rise in value as they have never made a better or more alarming ZX10R in my opinion since.

Just don't get a beige one unless it's stupidly cheap/free?

Men choose the 2004 one.

If you are a faggot, buy the other one. If you want to look fuckin' hard, 2004.

Some interesting feedback. Thank you.

However, I don't want to appear to be what I am NOT:

1 a 'faggot',
2 a 'hardman'

I just want to be semi comfortable on a lunatic bike that will lift the front when rolling on the throttle from time to time.

I like Kawasaki for their ability to be brutal and raw, as well as for their build quality and reliability.

What I don't want is a bike that wil want to kill me at every instance, which is why I seek this good forum's views on whether i'd be suicidal to get the 2004 model over the 2006.

Very Happy

Street triple or GSXR1000 K5/6

one is a frantic bike thats still rather nippy and one is a stupidly lazy quick bike.

To be a man, I'd say you need the 04 ZX.

I have a52plate gsxr thou that I bought from new .Now got 76k on it and as sweet as a nut .Last yr I bought a 2 owner 17k miles 04 plate zx10r,that is in showroom condition .However I fooking hate the zx10 on the road and I`m easily 20mph faster on the bumpy back roads on the gsxr.I find it hard to believe that 2, one litre engines produced about 4 yrs apart can be so different. Shocked .The zx has a poor bottom end next to the gsxr and you need to ride a gear lower on the twisties. However the topend rush is Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing and makes my gsxr feel like Sick .I have no steering damper fitted to the zx ,the rear shock is far to hard.I ride at the back of the fast group on trackdays on an old 1999 R6.IMO Mr. Green everyone should have a ride on the ch1 zx10r.lol

You like the 2004 model for the price.......you sure about that?

They're almost as if not more pricey than the twin can model,I've seen a fair few expensive ones of late.

Fact is its only you that's going to kill yourself, its all in the wrist mate so long as you ain't a fanny then you'll be alright.

Yes I hear the '98 R1 tossed around as the pinnacle of that series... out of interest why is that? I can understand the ones from the last few years being poo-pooed because there's too many rider aids as standard, but what sets the '98 apart so much from some of the mid to late 2000s models? Or is the answer "when you ride one you'll know"? Wink

Being a carb model the power delivery was a bit more aggressive,it wasn't fine tuned if you know what I mean,I have one. But its away at the end of the month to make way for the 2002 5pw model, much more useable, easier to get the power down with a better torque curve throughout the rev range.....it'll be easier to ride fast which will make it spot on for the track. The wheelbase at the time was quite short on the 4xv R1 making it a bit lairy, same as the c1h 10r,that year 10r had a shorter wheelbase than the same year 6r Laughing
