Hi guys, upon selling my ped, i've been in search for a new 125 and have stumbled upon the CBR125 which i am very fond of. But i am also favourable to Honda's forgotten new learner bike, i.e. the XR125L. I don't think many people have them since they have been overshadowed by the CBR, or i might be mistaken. So anybody that does own or has experienced an XR125 before, please leave feedback behind regarding the bike. I'm also interested in investigating whether road biased tyres can fit the rim. i.e. supermoto stylee.

Personally, after much deliberation, i have made the XR my primary choice as the difference in price is 200 against the CBR and it costs me 380 quid less to insure...

It also suits my personality. Skateboarding punk/metaller/band member would obviously prefer a more rugged appearance. Just watch any MotoX or extreme sports vid or X games and chances are they'll be playing some stuff from some punk band like Lagwagon, Pennywise and the like.

Hi

The trouble with the CBR is that they have aimed it as a sports bike to replace the NSR and compete with the RS125 and Mito. However these older bikes were 2 strokes and although available learner legal could easily be derestricted to about double the power.

The XR will be slower than the CBR (probably a good 10mph slower), but at least it is a bit honest about it.

Difficult choice, but to be honest I would suggest you also think about a 2nd hand older 125.

All the best

Keith

A mate of mine who has just passed his CBT had an XR125, and I am insanely jealous Smile I am tempted to go back to one myself.

I had an (older version) XL125 and it was the fabbest little learner bike I could have owned. Turned me into the trailie freak I am today Smile

Get the trailie! The CBR is overpriced and too slow. Big singles are the way forewards!

Thanks for your opinions guys. I guess the XR will be more friendly on my pocket and is a bike that i definately like to see myself on. It does appear much more durable than the toy of a CBR and yeh, it would be more friendly with the law as i could only manage 65 on it tops so it's all cool! Next stop KTM Duke!!! Razz

I've spotted one for sale in London but the problem is that the guy selling it has no tax (cos of the grace period) and decided not to ride during winter, therefore cancelling his insurance. No insurance = no tax. I on the other hand can obtain insurance for the bike easily, but the problem is getting the bike home. A small knock-over in a car park has shattered the rear lhs indicator and also the left mirror, which consequently buggered up the front lights. Can any of you suggest any methods for getting the bike home without me getting stopped by the old bill? I haven't had much time on a clutch bike either as i rode my auto ped. It's basically a straight dash down the A5 from Marble Arch 2 Edgware if any of you are familiar with the route. You help will be greatly appreciated.
