Quick question to those in the know.

I have to purchase quite a lot of stuff for my job and can easily spend into £1,000's per month. Some of this on things like hotels, stationary, image rights etc.

Now I just signed up to Shutterstock and paid for a package £165 for 60 images. After purchasing I thought id check with the Topcashback site and they are offering 21% cash back.

Now this is a business card and if I'm gaining from it and I'm caught I'm pretty sure it will be a gross misconduct sort of a situation.

So.....What are the chances i'll get found out?

Will anyone know that I'm going via these sites? Does it leave a trace?

This is a chance to earn some extra cash - but obviously DO NOT want to get fired.

Opinions / Advice welcomed

Is it a works computer? If it's your own then only you will know, as the card would be used on the commerce site, not the cashback one.
Have you thought of asking?

You could always ask. They might let you. Or offer to split the booty. My boss, for example, has no objections to me collecting nectar points on fuel for the company car.

Where you could land up in problems is if you don't declare it. Pretty sure HMRC would see it as a taxable benefit?

Asking... what a novel idea.

Ha ha... Yeah I'm sure I know what the answer will be.

I will let sense prevail.

I get the air miles on business flights I make. This is standard practice (to the extent that Gordon Brown, a while back, was rumoured to be trying to find ways of taxing it).

Question is whether the line falls between that and what you're proposing. The answer, in my opinion, is probably.
