Hello,

Found a beautiful bike but I need to get it transported home. Does anyone know a good / reliable / quick service? I've seen so far:

Route66, a2b motorcycle movers ltd, motorcycle transport services ltd, and two from the delivery quote compare website: couriers R us and another independent one.

Does anyone have any experience with any of these movers or is able to recommend a good one? (based on your custom please, no 'mate from my best bud's brother').

Cheers

If you want the bike moving from Dudley to Bromsgrove, I can do it in the next half-hour for ten ponds.

It's from SA14 Wales to SG5 North Herts, if this helps.

Marmalade I believe is involved in a motorcycle movers. I think it's this one https://www.wemovebikesandquads.co.uk/ but there's hundreds of different companies with similar names.

Marmalade has also said about what sort of insurance they need in case they wreck it, I believe goods in transit isn't good enough, they need something else. I've no idea what though. Probably worth PMing him. Laughing

I'm not involved in them but I do know a couple of them and have used them to collect 3 or 4 bikes without issue, I've even sent my money to them by bacs to hand over to the seller on having a quick nosy to make sure it's not a total pos, being bikers themselves they can at least do a casual check over.

The insurance thing comes up regularly, usually after the bike has got damaged and the delivery person isn't seen for dust and the goods in transit is worthless as a road going motorbike isn't goods.

Ah sorry, the grey matter isn't as good as it used to be. Smile

Useful to know and good to be reminded of. No point paying £5k for a bike just to watch it be destroyed should the courier have a crash with no form of indemnity.

Might be a silly question but could you not just ride it?

It usually costs more.

By the time you've paid £100 for a train, spent the whole day doing it, fuel in the bike and maybe a day off or hired a van for £60, another £60 for fuel and again, a day off, might as well pay £120 for someone else to collect it and just wait for it to to turn up on the doorstep.

Train to cumbria from Salisbury was more than the cost of getting my transalp collected and brought to my house.

Obviously the downside is you don't get to see the bike but have a chat with whoever you are going to get to collect it, see if they are up to having a bit of a nosy on the basis that if it's a dog (unexpectedly), they drive away.

I went to see the bike myself on the car with the mrs and it was worth the buy, considered riding it back on Sunday but if you were on the M4 going east from Wales that day, you'd know better. The wind at the Bristol bridge would've had me off for sure as im still noob, plus sleet and rain all the long way home. The only bike I saw on the way was a 1200GS at the services and he was looking miserable. Weather forecast was some snow for Monday so not worth the day off Neutral

Delivery seems like a wise option when the best western already had a free spay day for my stay, jacuzzi and sauna Cool because why not.

Bike will be delivered Thu or Friday...
