Have a CB500 '94 with a seized front brake piston.
The calliper is a Nissin as it's an early model with the drum rear brake.

My question is will a later model Brembo calliper be a straight swap? (or did they change the mounting). I ask as can only find the Brembo at local breaker and it's expensive at that.

Try as I might I can't get the piston to move out. Other one appears fine. Don't have access to an air line either.

Thanks in anticipation for an answer and/or advice Thumbs Up

See if you can push the stuck piston all the way back in first, in case it has tilted slightly and jammed against the bore.

If you can clamp the other piston (like with a 'G' Cramp), you should be able to use the hydraulics to eject the stuck piston.

This works. If it doesn't, you have the stuckest piston in the history of the world.

If you change the caliper wouldn't you have to swap to the Brembo master cylinder as well?

I'm not sure but it would be worth checking.

Isn't there a lot of free play on the lever? The Brembo caliper has bigger pistons.

No works fine
Very slightly more travel but the increased leverage make it more effective

Me I now run a much small er master cylinder to give yet more hydrolic advantage slightly soft leaver feel but lots of feel and power in the braking but you do have to keep the calliper in good condition and use a goodridge line

I not recommend going as far as I have unless you have a good idea what you doing
The calliper swap is easy and a great improvement

lots of these queries since the ford picture.....

since one piston is free etc. in the caliper, lock that off so it cant come out, and concentrate on the stuck piston.............

again using wood to protect alloy and piston etc .....may be an old pad could be used successfully, and a spring arrangement, even the "spring" of a g clamp..........

place the caliper with its stuck piston cleaned as best as possible,,,,

place the caliper in hot water and pump piston out.........

when it moves, pump it out as far as you dare, lub with fluid and push back in, repeat many times till the stuck piston becomes free........

then strip clean overhaul etc.....

this does work and has done many times now....hare and tortuoise.... :karma:

you know of the tiny master cylinder hole, cmnsl for the exploded views and red rubber grease.......

different master cylinders......with smaller bore.......less fluid "pumped".....less caliper piston movement.............more porriage for brekkers :karma:
