So for some reason I just booked my theory test for 8am tomorrow morning after doing the square root of F*** all prep - Other than 12 years of faultless driving of course.

No lecture’s please, I know failing to prepare is preparing to fail. Despite popular belief spontaneity is not a positive personality trait. I’m always making things difficult for myself.

I reckon I can wing the multiple choice, but I need some advice on the hazard perception. Do I have to click everything or only things that are obvious? i.e. would a potholed road or wheelie bin on the edge of a kerb be too cautious or is that the kind of thing they’re looking for. What about people waiting at a bus stop?

If you failed, what was the thing that caught you out?

The hazard perception is the same as the car one. The hazards, for the most part, will be obvious and you get 10 clicks before they claim you have clicked too often.

Why not practice now instead of posting on a forum asking about it? There are countless online.

Click once when you see a hazard. Click again when/if you see it develop.

Could be someone walking towards the street about to cross, or a speed limit change sign (yes, that's a hazard..!) or a car at the kerb pulling out etc.

Do some practice tests online. Go go go.

For the Hazards,if you have been driving for a while, it is relatively easy. Many a time you fail the test as you click before the system says there is a hazard.

Plenty of stuff to practice on on line so go do it. What's the worst that can happen? ...................... You gain experience for the next time you take the test.

Because I'm at work. Sad

I will be cramming later but I also think it's helpful to learn from other peoples real-life experiences of something I've never done before. Google isn't the answer to all of life's questions.

Having said that I will of course be Googling like a bitch this evening.

Mate, get the DVD or go online (I prefer the DVD things)

I just revised through each section..

Should be easy enough to bash out in a day!

Also with the hazard perception:

Click when you see a hazard. Then leave it 0.5 seconds and click again.

This is because the software is so old you can see the hazards before it puts you in a 'scoring zone' so where you should be getting 5 points for seeing it early you will get 0 points as the software is outdated.

So click, then click again to be on the safe side.

It's easy, sit there expecting things to happen and boom, on some of them you can predict whats going to happen e.g. on country lanes you will likely see a tractor or horses..
If your coming up to the last few clips and you haven't seen any blue lights yet you'll likely get one of them..

Good luck Thumbs Up

Oh and I forgot some of the hazards clips have more than one hazard.

True. I did lots of practice hazard tests and I saw the hazard way before the test thought I should have.

When you see the hazard, click once, then count 2, click again, count 2, click again until you're on top of it or it's past.

Be careful not to click too rapidly because that will make you fail that 'question'.

I can't remember the test at all, apart from one question which involved a car pulling out that was stopped in front of a parked van on the left of the road as you approached.

I got 100% in my theory - read through the official DSA DVD guide the night before, worked a treat.

I failed it first time due to this. I then on the next attempt did the click then click a bitter latter method and passed.

Still think it is a stupid pointless test. The multiple choice bit at least makes sense as you should know the rules of the road but the hazard perception video means nothing in the real world.

Thanks for the advice Thumbs Up

I've done a few practice multiple choice and passed them all. Sounds like it's just the limitations of the hazard perception software I'll be up against.

It is stupid. If I fail, presumably meaning that I am deemed unfit to be on the road. I'm going to be walking out hopping in my car and driving home, then getting on my bike and riding 20 miles to work Laughing
