To cut a long story short, cleaned carb out, putting it back on! No matter how hard I try I can't get the airbox boot on the card! Tried a lot of things from lubricating it and putting things on in differnt order! Please can you guys give me some advice!
It's a big Airbox boot and is squeezed inbetween the shock and frame!
Also while I'm here, My bike has a 170cc top end, do you suggest I change to premix oil?
Thanks!

Stick the boot into boiling water for a couple of minutes. It'll soften the rubber enough for you to get it on.

had a tzr with the athena 170 top end on. (same engine)

Ran it on castrol 747 40:1 premix its whole life. PV pinned wide open Very Happy

Big end bearing went on it at one point so might be something to bear in mind. Dont think the cranks got a long life with that big piston shaking it about.

Thanks very much, got Airbox pipe on thanks to you guys! And I'm going to start running premix, id rather take oil tank off all together but then I won't be able to mount my Cdi anywhere, when it comes down to next piston and ring change or full engine I might try and buy a used barrel off ebay and get it rebored! As I can't afford to replace the bottom end regularly, how often did you do a piston and ring change with your ATHENA?
Also I have my ypvs all working so havent pinned open, my Cdi needs changing to an RM -20 As it has the RM 30 on which I beleive doesn't Rev as high!
P.S sorry for all my waffle, just curious to know how often you rebuilt your bike with ATHENA? And at how many miles did you big end decide to say bye bye...
Cheers!

glad you got it on!

I don't have the bike anymore and was used as a track toy so didnt get a clear mileage on it.
It did 4 track days before the big end went... But thats obviously with the bike having its neck rung constantly.

Athenas are nikasil plated so a replate might be a better option if its out of spec next rebuild as the barrels aint cheap.

Managed to salvage mine without a replate or new barrel when it went though. Just a new piston kit plus having the big end bearing fitted to the crank and it was back to life.
