Can anyone suggest a good disc lock I could get for my Aprilia MX 125?

I've had a scout about online, but the only one I can find that fits my bike is the Oxford Titan 10mm one. Is this any good?

Cool

no its made by oxford it will be crap

you need a big chain and chain the bike to something that is un removable eg lamppost or bike rack

a disc lock wont stop them sticking your bike in a van

I already have a Pragmasis 16mm Chain, squire lock and ground anchor at home. I was just thinking of something a bit more practical to carry with me when I'm out riding.

I imagine that it's made by Zing Ping Very Top Quality Security Products and Discount Cookware Incorporated, for about 50p a unit.

However, it is bright yellow, comes with a carry pouch, and the Oxford branding is subtle enough so it won't immediately scream "for novelty purposes only".

And what's a better lock? Who do you trust?

Abus, they do well regarded padlocks, right? So you look at the Abus 37 Series Long Shackle lock. £86, must be quality, right? Then you look closer and bugger me sideways, it appears to be the exact same lock as the £14 Datatool Devil 1000 that we've just seen trivially "picked" with a screwdriver in seconds. For shame, Abus.

So, Squire Eiger locks? Not much more than the Oxfrauds, and they have the Squire name and all sorts of Sold Secure Gold Extreme Awesome Awards of Awardness, but trust is a fragile commodity, and Abus have just dropped a turd in the common punchbowl.

Me, I would and do go with the cheapest alarmed disc lock that fits. On the basis that it'll deter casual seat sniffers as well as or better than an unalarmed lock of better quality, while offering no worse protection against a crew in a van than a much more expensive lock would.

The MX will be a target for scrotes. Grab a D lock, a 13mm chain and a gun, take those with you.

To be fair mine is made by prolok

But I'm securing a burgman 400 that weighs too much to lift into a van without a crane rather then a highly nickable motocross bike

That's on theodd occasion iI take it with me

Do you know of any alarmed disc locks that would fit my bike?

Not cheap but, I use one of these amongst other things. It is supposed to be the toughest one to cut through, out of the three security devices I use, which is why I recommend it, if you're going to use only one.

Looking at the pics of an MX 125 on the net, it should fit through your disc okay.

Sorry, I didn't see your initial post. I'll have a look at the Aldi one. Are all these locks universal though, or do they only work with specific bikes?

Its just a big padlock but should fit through part of the disc

I use mine on the garage door I wouldn't hear it from mine but should make enough noise to either wake a neighbour or scare shit of of anyone trying to get into the garage

I'll have a look at my local aldis and see if I can find one. Even if it doesn't fit my disc, it would be worthwhile fitting on my garage door like you said.

Whoa, don't be hatin' on the Abus because it looks like that Datatool.

I've not had a go on the Abus like I've had with the Datatool, but even with just a brief fondle of the Abus, I can tell you while they're similar in appearance, they're certainly worlds apart in quality and have significant design differences, for one you can't pull its guts out with a screw driver.

Cheers, chap. I'd hope that the Datatool is a shoddy rip off of the Abus then? They've certainly done a good copy-job.

You could just get a heavy padlock.

I'm certain it's a rip off, the Chinese are quite good at that sort of thing.

Paddy is 100% right! The MX125 is a chav's 'wet dream rag it round a field and housing estate for 4hours bike and then torch it to ashes!' They'll probably cum in their pants just looking at it, and once they know here you live/park it, they'll be constantly trying to take it away from you!

You need at least 2bike locks that will chain it to an un-movable object if you park it in town, and even then expect it to attract a lot of chav attention, and them to mess about with it.

At home you need it indoors, or in a locked brick built garage chained down with shipping chain etc. And firearms or extreme violence will be very worthwhile too IMO.

Please don't lock this up in the street with a disc lock, you'll be in tears before the end of the day if you do!

You can buy a CEN4 grade yale padlock for about £20 on ebay. It's probably a lot harder to pick or break than most disklocks (citation needed)

Thanks for the replies lads. Deffo given me food for thought.

I've got all the boxes pretty much ticked for security at home, but I need to step up the security when I'm out and about. To be fare, if I nip to my mates house etc, the bike will always be in my view, but I don't wonna take any chances....or end up being imprisoned for beating down come chav scum. Mr. Green

So Ideally I need to buy another x 2 chains, so I can chain it to something solid, and a disc lock of some sort? I'm also having an alarm/immobiliser fitted too.
