 |
|
Can anyone suggest a good disc lock I could get for my Aprilia MX 125?
I've had a scout about online, but the only one I can find that fits my bike is the Oxford Titan 10mm one. Is this any good?

I imagine that it's made by Zing Ping Very Top Quality Security Products and Discount Cookware Incorporated, for about 50p a unit.
However, it is bright yellow, comes with a carry pouch, and the Oxford branding is subtle enough so it won't immediately scream "for novelty purposes only".
And what's a better lock? Who do you trust?
Abus, they do well regarded padlocks, right? So you look at the Abus 37 Series Long Shackle lock. £86, must be quality, right? Then you look closer and bugger me sideways, it appears to be the exact same lock as the £14 Datatool Devil 1000 that we've just seen trivially "picked" with a screwdriver in seconds. For shame, Abus.
So, Squire Eiger locks? Not much more than the Oxfrauds, and they have the Squire name and all sorts of Sold Secure Gold Extreme Awesome Awards of Awardness, but trust is a fragile commodity, and Abus have just dropped a turd in the common punchbowl.
Me, I would and do go with the cheapest alarmed disc lock that fits. On the basis that it'll deter casual seat sniffers as well as or better than an unalarmed lock of better quality, while offering no worse protection against a crew in a van than a much more expensive lock would.

Do you know of any alarmed disc locks that would fit my bike? |

Not cheap but, I use one of these amongst other things. It is supposed to be the toughest one to cut through, out of the three security devices I use, which is why I recommend it, if you're going to use only one.
Looking at the pics of an MX 125 on the net, it should fit through your disc okay. ____________________ There ain't no devil, there's just god when he's drunk.

Whoa, don't be hatin' on the Abus because it looks like that Datatool.
I've not had a go on the Abus like I've had with the Datatool, but even with just a brief fondle of the Abus, I can tell you while they're similar in appearance, they're certainly worlds apart in quality and have significant design differences, for one you can't pull its guts out with a screw driver. |

Thanks for the replies lads. Deffo given me food for thought.
I've got all the boxes pretty much ticked for security at home, but I need to step up the security when I'm out and about. To be fare, if I nip to my mates house etc, the bike will always be in my view, but I don't wonna take any chances....or end up being imprisoned for beating down come chav scum.
So Ideally I need to buy another x 2 chains, so I can chain it to something solid, and a disc lock of some sort? I'm also having an alarm/immobiliser fitted too. |
