Hi

We've just got hold of a '05 cbr125r for our son. It's an cat C bike which isn't a problem in itself , however the gear and brake lever wobble a fair bit, the last mot has got gearlever and brakelever has excessive play on it so I've got to do something.
Has anyone come across similar , is it a case of shiming out ?

Thanks , Adam

As in too much play in all directions?

I would just get a second hand set or go for cheap pattern parts as these things bend while said son is learning to ride.

Should be reasonably easy to fit if you have basic skills and a spanner.

I am re-building an old ER5 at the moment, and have the same problem with the levers. There's a lot of play on them, but they don't seem to be worn badly - so I guessed that there are a couple of washers missing from the pivot pin - either side of the lever.

I had a look at the levers on my daughter's bicycle, and they have a thin copper washer on one side, and a flat spring washer on the other (wavy washer) - so I think something like this is needed on the ER5.

If yours look like they have excessive wear - change them, otherwise fit washers.

Thanks for the reply's

Skudd - sort of , as you sit on the bike they move in and out from the frame , wouldn't normally worry about it but it's on the old mot. After checking them gearlever today the shaft part is worn oval , no problem with swapping them over just wondering if they could be reshimed / bushed or if there was a known fix.

Taught2BCautious - lol , sorry not handle bar levers , foot gear and brake lever / pedals

Thanks , Adam

I had a CBR125 and it was the same, it just a crap grade of metal that they use and it wears down or stretches.
